From Manila to Mountains: A Lifelong Love of Cars

We are a husband and wife team, RJ and Frances.  We have a passion for the outdoors, cars, and food. We love going off-roading, taking amazing pictures, and trying out new food. We were both born in the Philippines and I (RJ) came to the US at 4 years old. Frances grew up in the Philippines and came to the US in 2010. We also love to travel and experience other cultures, which led us to appreciate and love landscape photography.

The majority of amazing landscapes require off-roading to the destination, so we decided to get an off-road vehicle. We looked at multiple options, but the new Ford Bronco captured our hearts and we settled with the 6th Generation Ford Bronco. Our love of doing landscape photography was amplified by a new passion for off-roading. We started to do some upgrades and installs for our Bronco, and that is now one of our main hobbies. If you don’t see us in the trails off-roading trying to escape the city life, we are at our apartment garage installing something new to the Bronco! Around this moment, we started our YouTube channel called The Bronco Adventures, where we share our journey building our Bronco, our adventures and car shows.

The car show world started for us on just a simple car meet and it was a Jeep meet-up, it was very funny because we were the only Bronco.  We got great and not-so-great compliments and comments from everyone but that pushed us to go on more car shows and to be able to showcase our build.  We both are not mechanics, we don’t have our own garage, don’t know the majority of our tool names and we just wing it the majority of the time, but we were able to make our build very competitive to other car builds.

Since 1999 when I first got my license at 16 years old, my first car was a 1987 Toyota Corolla hatchback with BBS wheels that was passed down by my uncle. My high school friends had modified cars, a 1997 Acura Integra (fixed up) 1998 Honda Civic EX coupe (fixed up).  Ever since then, I fell in love with the car scene. Frances (my wife) her 1st car in the Philippines was a 1974 Volkswagen Brasilia. Frances would help her dad at an early age of 7 years old fixing up their cars. Since then, Frances is not just into cars but also knows her tools.

Starting in 2010 we had a 2002 Honda S2000, 2009 Mitsubishi Evolution 9, 2011 Mazda RX-8, and 1999 Honda Civic Ex coupe. We also leased a 2014 Mercedes Benz C-Class, a 2015 Maserati Ghibli, 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2020 Audi SQ5. What encouraged us to build our Bronco was to go on harder trails. Thats when we started upgrading tire size, suspension, & performance. We got into carbon fiber cause we wanted to look different from the other Bronco builds & be unique. We also made sure that the carbon fiber parts we used will be able to handle the off-road trails. Every time we have a new part we always test it on a trail first.

Building a 2021 Ford Bronco: From Stock to Showstopper

Before getting our 2021 Ford Bronco, we were actually thinking of getting a 2020 Jeep Rubicon or a pre owned G-Wagon. Then the new 2021 Ford Bronco came out, and fell in love with the truck. Our first install ever were side steps cause the Bronco was too tall, then changed it to rock sliders cause the side steps were hitting the rocks.

Then we added aluminum skid plates cause the trails were getting more difficult. Instead of taking landscape pictures, we ended up doing more difficult trails for our YouTube channel. Then we started to add more lights such as a light bar, ditch lights, rock lights & fog lights. We wanted our Bronco to look different so we got an RTR Bronco grille, carbon fiber fenders, carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber interior  to stand out from other Broncos.

A Ford Bronco Built for Adventure and Accolades

We have a lot of custom-built products that we did with our Bronco. We customized our RTR grille, made a carbon fiber engine cover, seat brackets, harness bar, 2nd battery system off-road lights & carbon fiber wide body kit. The owning experience is amazing, we have won over 44 times in car shows in the past 2 years & while running errands people will stop and tell us how cool our Bronco is. The driving experience is fantastic, we can take our Bronco to the trails, rock crawl, desert blast, and take it to the mall in the same day, while winning a trophy at the car shows. When we are not on the trails or off-roading, we love bringing our Bronco to the beach and driving it along the coast. What makes our Bronco special too is, we can also remove our roof and doors. It takes it to a whole new level, especially in trails.

Who did the work?

We did 80 percent of the work ourselves inside our apartment garage, all in our Youtube videos. We installed the carbon fiber fenders & fender liners that took us 6 days, installed carbon fiber hood, installed our 1.5inch body lift at a park, changed our steering wheel, RTR grille, all the lighting, installed the carbon fiber front seats & brackets, changed the headlights, custom fit the harness bar, replaced the sway bar to the antirock sway bar kit, installed the skid plates, installed the exhaust system, cold air intake, blow off valve, & carbon fiber engine cover, removed the crash bars (so difficult), cargo enclosure, new soft top, installed the rock sliders, installed the RTR rear bumper, installed the spare tire carrier & 3rd brake light extension. The rest was done at Savant Auto Works in Los Alamitos, they installed the cv axles, upper control arms, rear lower control arms, & Radflo shocks

Future Plans for the 2021 Ford Bronco

We still have some other projects that we have going on, they actually still being made. We have a harness bar that would be overlayed with carbon fiber. Were also thinking of getting portals & upgrading our brakes. Once we are finished with our Bronco build we have plans on purchasing another vehicle. Not sure if we would get another truck, a Japanese sports car, a muscle car, or a Euro sports car.
