At 34, Emile Ellis isn't your average groundsman from West Sussex. With a lifelong passion for modified cars, particularly French models, Emile has turned his childhood fascination into a roaring reality. Growing up as the son of a mechanic, he gained invaluable knowledge that now fuels his automotive ambitions.

The Spark That Ignited the Engine

A Family Affair: Wrenches and Racing

Emile's automotive journey began long before he could reach the pedals. His father's garage was his playground, where school holidays transformed into mechanical masterclasses. But it wasn't just dad who revved up Emile's passion. "Mum was very much a girl racer," Emile reminisces. "I still have fond memories of being in the back of her red Escort XR3i, flying down the motorway." This high-octane upbringing set the stage for a lifetime of automotive adventures.

From Console to Concrete: The Laguna Dream

While most teens were dreaming of supercars, Emile's heart belonged to a more unusual object of desire - the Renault Laguna from TOCA Touring Cars 2. Little did he know that his virtual favorite would one day become his real-life project.

The Chase: Acquiring the Laguna

Years later, when a Laguna BTCC replica appeared for sale, Emile knew it was now or never. A phone call, a deal, and a journey from the Midlands later, his digital dream had become a tangible reality.

The Diamond in the Rough

The car arrived with its BTCC livery intact, but that's where the accuracy ended. Wrong wheels, incorrect spoiler, a wooden splitter, and a standard interior powered by a 1.9 turbo diesel engine - this Laguna was crying out for Emile's perfectionist touch.

From Replica to Reality: A Labor of Love

Emile's dedication is evident in the extensive modifications he's made:

• Unleashing the Beast: A full 3.0L V6 engine swap, complete with new wiring looms and a custom stainless steel exhaust, transformed the Laguna's performance. Upgraded Brembo 4-pot brakes and a 5-stud hub conversion ensured it could handle the newfound power.
• Track-Worthy Transformation: A complete underbody restoration with colour coding enhanced the car's overall condition. A custom-made front bumper and splitter replaced the inaccurate parts, while the iconic 1998 BTCC livery and a BTCC-style rear wing completed the authentic look. 18-inch OZ Racing Superturismo wheels with a billet centre lock kit added the finishing touch.
• Driver-Focused Interior: Cobra bucket seats, a Sabelt Renault Sport steering wheel, a racing gearknob, and a rear seat delete transformed the interior into a driver's haven.

A Head-Turner on the Streets

Now, Emile's Laguna isn't just rare; it's a unicorn. "You never see them around, never mind a BTCC replica," he says proudly. "It gets a lot of reactions when I'm out and about. It sounds great too!"
