10 of the Weirdest Car World Records That Genuinely Exist

From a 6-mile skid mark to a car that can dive underwater, here are 10 genuinely real Guinness World Records set by cars — verified, not internet legend.

Guinness World Records has an entire, genuinely enormous category dedicated to cars doing things cars were never designed to do — and almost none of it is internet legend. Every record below is independently verified and on the books. Here are ten of the strangest.

In plain English: these aren't rumours or forum myths — someone, somewhere, actually did every single one of these on purpose, with an official adjudicator watching.

1. The Six-Mile Skid Mark

In 1964, the jet-propelled Spirit of America land speed car went out of control during a record attempt at Bonneville, and left skid marks measured at nearly six miles long — an accident that became a record almost by default. For comparison, the longest skid marks ever measured on an ordinary public road came in at 290 metres, on the M1 in 1960, from a car estimated to be travelling over 100 mph.

2. The Longest Drift, Set by an Electric Car

In 2020, a rear-wheel-drive Porsche Taycan set the record for the longest continuous drift by an electric vehicle, spinning its rear wheels for 26.2 miles straight — a genuinely absurd demonstration that EV drivetrains can do exactly what a combustion muscle car can, tyre smoke included. It's not even the longest drift overall: a BMW M5 driven by professional drifter Johan Schwartz covered 232.5 miles in a single continuous drift, needing five mid-drift refuels from a second M5 driving alongside it purely to keep it topped up.

3. The Amphibious Car That Actually Dives

The Rinspeed sQuba, built on a Lotus base, holds the record for genuinely functional land-to-water transition — running on lithium-ion batteries and twin jet drives, it can convert from a road car into a fully submersible vehicle in minutes, and is drivable underwater down to a depth of 10 metres.

4. Driving a Mile on Two Wheels, Twice Over

Stunt driver Terry Grant holds the record for the fastest mile driven with a car balanced on just two side wheels — one of several two-wheel driving records he holds, alongside the highest vertical loop-the-loop ever completed in a car and the most doughnuts ever performed while standing on a car's roof. Separately, Finnish driver Vesa Kivimäki holds the record for the fastest speed achieved while driving on two tyres at all: 116 mph.

5. Reverse Driving, Contested at the Very Top

Reverse-gear speed records have been genuinely competitive in recent years. YouTuber Scot Burner set a Guinness-recognised fastest reverse mile using a manual C7 Corvette Stingray — the record has to use a manual car, since automatic reverse gears aren't governed the same way. In December 2025, Pakistani stunt driver Sultan Golden reportedly completed a one-mile reverse drive in just 57 seconds, alongside a separate 121.72-foot reverse ramp jump record on the same day — figures fast enough to have drawn public praise from Pakistan's Prime Minister.

6. The Tightest Parallel Park You'll Ever See

In 2015, stunt driver Alastair Moffatt parked a Fiat 500 into a space with just 3 inches of clearance at either end — a record he's had to defend more than once since, reclaiming it after a challenger got even closer.

7. Blindfolded, at 186 MPH

Mike Newman of the UK holds the record for the fastest speed driven while completely blindfolded, hitting 186 mph in a Porsche GT2 in 2013 — a record that exists purely because someone decided speed and total sensory deprivation ought to be combined, on a closed course, under strict controlled conditions.

8. The Longest Journeys, By Very Specific Vehicle Types

Guinness tracks distance records with remarkable specificity. The longest journey ever completed by a taxi stands at 43,391.5 miles. A Toyota Mirai completed an 845-mile round trip through Southern California on a single tank as the longest distance covered by a hydrogen fuel-cell car without refuelling. And in 2010, a coffee-powered car nicknamed "Car-puccino" completed a 210-mile journey from London to Manchester for the record for longest journey by a coffee-powered vehicle.

9. The Car With the Most Stickers, and the Hairiest Car Alive

In 2014, a team from Lithuania set the record for the highest number of stickers applied to a single car. Separately, Italian car fan Maria Lucia Mugno covered her Fiat 500 in 120 kg of natural hair fibres, earning the genuinely bizarre title of hairiest car in the world.

10. The Longest Kiss With a Car

Yes, this is real. In a contest offering a car as the prize to whoever could kiss it the longest, two competitors, Ernesta and Jesús, each held on for a marathon 76 hours to claim the record for longest time spent kissing a car.

Every one of these exists because someone looked at an ordinary category — speed, distance, precision — and asked "but what if we did it in the strangest way physically possible." It's the exact same instinct behind every wild build in car culture, just pointed at a stopwatch instead of a dyno.
