I first got into photography when I got my first mobile phone back in what was probably 2017. I used to find myself walking my small village in Norfolk armed with my iPhone 5c, snapping pictures of anything and everything. Maybe it was the flowers, the old beater cars or simply just the colourful summer sunsets. I knew that photography was something that I was passionate about from about the age of 12.

When my mom brought a simple Sony Bridge Camera, you could not keep me away from it. I think I used it more than her. About two years after that, my mom bought me my first ever camera. Yes, it was still a Sony Bridge camera, but everyone has to start somewhere. I took every opportunity I could to photograph something, just to learn how the camera works.

After about two years of playing around with this beginner camera, it was time to step up into the world of DSLR cameras. By this point, I had a vague idea of what type of photography I enjoyed. My love of motorsports photography only began when I reached year 10 of high school.

Having grown up with two parents who loved Formula 1 and the BTCC, it was obvious that interest was passed on to me. I always admired the photographers that I saw trackside next to the thrill of it all on the other side of the fence. Living so close to Snetterton circuit, where I landed my first summer job in the cafe, it provided me with lots of time to practice and further fall in love with motorsports. I spent any chance I could with my camera, chasing the cars around the track.

Building a brand is hard but you have to be determined, I mostly built my brand by networking with people in the motorsports paddocks and across social media. As a young photographer in this difficult industry, I have found that by talking to people, you can learn a lot and get your name out there. By simply making conversation with people, I would not be in the position I am today.

If I'm asked for advice or tips I would have to say my main tip for those starting out is to practice. Learn your camera and how it works. If you are lucky enough to be close to a circuit and have free time, go to the track! Any spare time that I had, I remember asking my parents to drive me 20 minutes to Snetterton and leave me there for the day so I could photograph. Practice makes perfect and everyone starts somewhere.

Another tip I would give is to not be afraid to experiment with different settings. You never know, you might end up taking your best photo yet. As someone who learned techniques like panning simply by practicing and playing around with my camera settings, you never know how something might turn out until you give it a try.
