Family-Run Japanese Car Importer Opens Showroom in Elgin Scotland
DRK Imports celebrates 10 years of importing Japanese and Thai performance vehicles to Scotland. New Elgin showroom features women's mechanic classes and specialist car sourcing services.
Moray's Specialist Japanese and Thai Car Importer Drives Forward
DRK Imports, the Morayshire family-run importer of performance vehicles from Japan and Thailand, has opened its first premises in Elgin following a period of steady growth.
The move to the new facility coincides with the company's 10th anniversary. DRK Imports was founded in 2015 by David and his sister Charlotte. Originally selling engineering supplies to fund their passion for car imports, it has grown into a trusted name among specialist car enthusiasts across Scotland, the UK, and beyond.
With at least ten orders per month, the new showroom will showcase a small stock of imported vehicles, allowing customers to view the cars that have come all the way from Japan and Thailand.
From Engineering Supplies to Automotive Dreams
The founder and owner of DRK Imports said:
"From farmers looking for hard-to-find off-road vehicles to businesspeople dreaming of a limousine, our customers come from across Scotland and beyond. Selling these incredible cars is just part of what we do. We connect fellow enthusiasts with the cars of their dreams, delivering a level of service that's rare in this industry. It is what drives us. Opening this showroom is a major milestone, and we're excited for the next ten years in our new home."
Specialising in Japanese and Thai Vehicle Imports
DRK Imports specialises in sourcing high-performance vehicles to order, but they also locate practical family cars from the Japanese and Thai markets. Transparency and trust are central to the business. Every vehicle is inspected by experienced professionals, and comprehensive paperwork is provided to verify mileage and ownership.
Empowering Women Through Mechanics Classes
In a first for the local community, the Elgin premises will also host mechanic classes for women, new drivers, and others who dread dealing with mechanics. Led by Charlotte Usher, who manages the business finances and holds City & Guilds Level II & III qualifications in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, the initiative aims to empower people with practical and basic automotive skills.
Charlotte, Mechanic and Finance Administrator at DRK Imports, said:
"As a family-run business, we want this space to be welcoming for everyone. Our mechanic classes create a relaxed, no-pressure environment for women to learn practical skills such as changing a tyre to basic vehicle checks. I know how intimidating the world of cars can feel. A survey run by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) produced some shocking figures about the experience customers has with the industry. These classes are a chance to demystify car maintenance and give back to our community. I won an award from the UHI business competition with the idea, but it has taken six years to find somewhere to hold them."
