Kai Barlow: A 15-Year-Old Drifter's Thrilling Journey with a Turbocharged Eunos Roadster
How did you get involved in Racing?
At the age of 15, I found my way into racing through Tessa Whittock at RDX Drift Academy.
Why is it exciting for you?
I find the thrill in being sideways in a car and mastering the art of control.
Memorable Race experiences?
Some unforgettable moments include passing the RDX Academy, my first drift day at 3 Sisters track, and progressing to big boys' drift days at the same venue.
Sponsors coming on board with me after being a driver for a few years.
Have you ever sneezed in the car while Racing?
Not yet, at least!
What is the car you have had the most fun with while driving and why?
Boosting my own car made for an amazing first test day; the experience was truly exhilarating.
What is the worst car you ever drove and why?
The BMW E46 4-door I had was plagued with misfires due to a cam angle sensor issue, making it feel like a boat to drive.
What is your dream Racecar and why?
A Nissan S13 or any S chassis; I believe it offers the best platform for progression into competition.
What mod would you do first to your car?
Adding a turbo to address any power concerns; it's a modification that significantly transformed my own car.
Who is your favourite Driver?
James Deane stands out as he takes a hands-on approach to his cars and comes across as a straight-up person.
Are you in it to win it – or do you Race just for fun?
Currently racing for the sheer enjoyment, but I hope to compete for victories in the years to come.
Where do you usually Race and is it your favorite, and why?
While 3 Sisters is an amazing track, Teeside has become my favourite due to the abundance of drift days.
When running at a new track how many laps does it take before you master it?
Typically, around 8 to 10 laps; the first lap serves as a sighting lap to grasp the layout.
If you were going to start this over again, what three things would you do differently?
Avoid buying the BMW.
Install a cage in my car sooner.
Set more goals along the way.
What was your worst crash?
Thankfully, no severe crashes yet. The scariest moment was coming down the Driftland wall backwards, but no damage occurred.
What is Your best day on the race track and why?
The best day was the first drift day at Teeside on a sunny Bank Holiday. The car performed exceptionally well, creating a memorable experience.
And your worst?
My last day at Teeside turned sour with a wet start, steam-filled car, and a blown gearbox on a drying track.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I envision myself competing in places like Ireland and Scotland while collaborating with more brands.
Do you have a routine or ritual that sets your mind before Racing?
I don't have a specific ritual, but I do spend time on my simulator the night before and get an early night's rest.
Have you won any Competitions, which and how many?
None yet, but I plan to enter competitions next year with hopes of securing victories.
What is your ultimate dream for you and your Team?
My ultimate dream is to compete, gain more visibility for the sport, and establish a strong presence for my team.
