Exclusive Interview with Harrison Morrow
I started age 8 racing corporate karts both indoors and outdoors, but I wanted to go faster and race properly. So, age 9 I got my race licence at Whilton Mill and I started karting for real with a race team called Protrain.

Driver Interview: Harrison Morrow, Team Total Trouble Racing, TTR.
I am an 11-year-old petrolhead. I have been into cars and motorsport since I was a baby. My mum and dad are big into the car scene and I was at my first car show at 5 months old (I don’t remember it!) I love cars and I love racing and I have been to a lot of races.
My favourite race meeting was the British Touring cars at Silverstone, I went on to the grid and I got to sit in a touring car in the pits while the team got it ready for a race. I decided there and then I wanted to race cars
I started age 8 racing corporate karts both indoors and outdoors, but I wanted to go faster and race properly. So, age 9 I got my race licence at Whilton Mill and I started karting for real with a race team called Protrain.
I race Honda cadet karts. These are karts powered by a 160cc Honda engine and they can go at up to 60mph. We race in all weathers, I have raced in hail, snow, rain and sunshine. Normally at a big club race meet, there will be between 30 – 50 other Honda race drivers from all over the country and also abroad. We have standing starts and normally 2 – 3 heats and a final. I race on a chassis called Project 1, there are a lot of other chassis too, so it is very competitive.
There are a big number of work teams. We all race to control Dunlop slicks or wets. We have full race telemetry and data recording from our on-board lap timing kit.
In my first year on Karting, it was tough, I started as a novice, on black number plates and you start from the back of the grid.
I had a number of bad results and some crashes. I made my race debut in the pouring rain, and I spun in one heat over 6 times, as my dad had not put a wet set up on the Kart.
Last year we set up our team, I designed the logo as I love blue and green, and I am troubled on the race track!
We were runners up in the Shenington Sprint series 160 cadet class, so I got a trophy at Silverstone for doing that.
I name all my Karts. My latest one is a 2020 chassis and is called Bullseye.
My favourite race driver is Max Verstappen
My most memorable experience was winning my first Final in March. I got the jump at the start from 2nd on the grid and led to the flag!
My worst crash was hitting another Kart side at 45mph. I ended up in the ambulance, but was just badly bruised and shaken. I got back out on track the next day after the kart was fixed
I have sneezed in my crash helmet. I get Hay fever sometimes so it’s bad
Most fun I have ever had was when I went out on track with slick tyres and a massive rain shower hit, and I just stayed on track power sliding everywhere, I was sideways at every point on the track. I was soaked as I had no rain gear on, but it was so much fun!
My dream car would be a F1 car to race. I also want to race at Le Mans.
My favourite car at the moment would be a modified Nissan skyline in bright green with so much power, so I can drift it or go fast!
I race to win, it is very hard sometimes, as our team is just a privateer set up. We do not have the budget of the big guys. But we do everything we can to win.
I usually race in the Midlands at Shenington and Whilton Mill. But I have raced in Wales too. My favourite track is a place called Rye house. I have only tested there, but you have this flat out first corner with a hard barrier and it is a great buzz going into it as fast as you can.
When I go to new tracks, it can take me about 3 – 4 sessions to learn how it goes, but it can take a lot longer to get good at it.
You can change a lot on a kart, from gearing to handling, and it can be hard to get it set up so it's fast all the time!
I like seeing all my mates at the race track too, we are like a big race family.
I have a race routine; in the car I always watch races in the car driving to the race track. I always have a pot noodle at lunchtime and my dad and I have a special race handshake when I am on the grid ready to go.
I love sitting on the grid waiting for the lights to go. I love wheel racing and fighting with people.
My worst day was at Whilton, when I was disqualified for driving over the track limits, I got a penalty for contact which made my nose of the kart drop, and I also got a penalty from the stewards for hitting another driver too. A bad final for me.
I want to be racing cars in 5 years’ time. I am learning to drive my dad’s car at the moment and we plan to kart until I am 13, then go into car racing.
My dream is for me to get to a big race championship like F1 or Touring cars and run in my own team.
Most of all, I want to be racing and driving for as long as I can, and I hope I can work in racing all my life
Can I say thank you to my Mum and Dad, my Sponsors Central Mailing services and EMD inspire. All the people who follow and support me on Facebook and Instagram. I also want to say a big thankyou to my engine builder Jan at DK engines.
Please follow and support me, Dad always does race reports and tells it like it is. When I have had a bad day or a good day.
We never stop fighting or trying out on the race track, and I never ever give up.
Big thanks to Stu Stretton and Joshua East for the pictures too.
