Some builds start with a spec sheet. This one started with a screensaver. Victor Leong, known across the scene as @ronin_v10, carried a rendering of his dream car on his phone for five years before he finally turned it into steel, carbon and camo-wrapped reality — a LibertyWalk Lamborghini Huracán build that became the first LB Silhouette GT kit ever installed in the United States. This is his 2015 Huracán, and this is the story of how it came together.

From Dealership Catalogues to the Import Scene

Victor's love of cars didn't start with a Lamborghini badge. It started as a kid, cutting pictures out of dealership catalogues and slamming them lower with nothing but scissors, long before Photoshop existed. Once he was old enough to actually get behind the wheel, he started wrenching on his own cars — a 1976 Mercury Capri running a Hurst shifter, dual carbs and a whale tail, followed by a 1990 Honda Civic Si loaded with a full Mugen kit and Racing Hart Tracers. That Civic was turbocharged until he eventually swapped in a B17A motor.

By 1984 Victor was already working professionally in the industry, cutting his teeth on VWs — notchbacks, squarebacks, fastbacks — before moving through a string of aftermarket shops. He was a Lowrider magazine kid at heart, but he noticed something the culture wasn't covering yet: import cars. Hondas and Toyotas were just starting to break into the scene, and Victor could see that import culture deserved the same spotlight lowrider culture already had.

Building a Magazine, Building a Movement

That gap in the market turned into a business. Back in 1994, right as import car shows were getting off the ground, Victor and his team started handing out a free magazine covering the scene — models included, thanks to a handful of girls wearing shirts with his brand on them. What began as a giveaway eventually needed a dollar price tag once shops stopped restocking it fast enough to keep up with demand.

A few years in, the magazine grew into a full-colour, perfect-bound, nationally distributed publication that leaned further into exotics. The first issue featured the Sriracha family's single-turbo Supra parked outside their house, along with Patricia Ford on the cover. Later, nationally distributed issues brought names like Cindy Margolis and Karen McDougal onto the cover. Along the way, Victor built and campaigned vehicles that picked up awards for best Audi and best Mercedes in their categories.

He didn't stop at print. Victor launched a bodykit company called V.I.P. Edition, started Tire Graphix — a business built around whitewall tire lettering — and now runs an apparel line, @RONIN_lifestyle_wear. His builds have also landed him coverage in a Japanese automotive magazine.

The Meaning Behind Ronin

A lot of people ask Victor where the name "Ronin" comes from. A rōnin (浪人) was a samurai left without a lord or master during Japan's feudal era, typically after his master's death or fall from favour. It's a name Victor didn't pick lightly.

"A lot of this build reflected a lot of what I was going through with the loss of my father, losing focus of my path," he says. Building the car gave him a sense of direction again after feeling lost. "Thank you to all my sponsors who believed in my vision and gave me back what I once lost."

Why Build a LibertyWalk Lamborghini Huracán

Victor could have kept the Huracán stock and let the badge do the talking. That was never the point. "I didn't want it to look like a rental or a lease," he explains. He wanted a car that carried his own signature, something that matched the rendering he'd been staring at on his phone for half a decade.

The result is a full LibertyWalk widebody build, put together with help from LTMW and LibertyWalk directly — and it holds the distinction of being the first LibertyWalk Silhouette GT kit fitted to a car in the US. For Victor, driving it does more than turn heads at a show. "Owning this car is cheaper than therapy," he says. "When I'm feeling bad or down, you just take it out, go for a drive, and basically it takes every problem away from you... there's nothing like the feeling of driving this car on an open highway."

This isn't Victor's first build to make waves either. He's previously built one of the first widebody Mercedes CLKs in the US — a car that made it all the way to SEMA — and fitted an awning to an Audi Allroad A4, a build that went viral simply because nobody else was doing it. He just wanted shade at car shows.

Everything mechanical under the skin — engine and interior — was left stock. As Victor puts it, why mess with a Lamborghini's factory drivetrain when the whole point of the build was the widebody transformation on the outside? Future plans for the car include a twin-turbo setup down the line.

Life With the Build

Victor's favourite part of owning a build like this isn't the trophies or the magazine features, it's the people. He loves getting out to car shows, answering questions from younger enthusiasts, and passing on advice where he can. "What I really like about the car scene is the young enthusiast at the car shows, enjoying the cars that we put out there for them to keep dreaming of," he says, "and hopefully that dream will come true."

His advice to anyone chasing a build of their own is simple: never stop dreaming, and commit to it. "My car is unique — this is the very first LibertyWalk Silhouette GT kit in the US that was installed onto this kind of car," he says of the Huracán. "All the work was done by @LTMW in El Monte, CA. I think it's safe to say they knocked it out of the park and really made it stand out."

Dream Car

Ask Victor what his dream car is and he'll tell you it's a tough question, mostly because he's already driving it. If he had to pick something else, though, it would be a Koenigsegg.
