A Life Around Cars
Meet the passionate mechanic behind this unique build: a 38-year-old car enthusiast with a lifetime of experience. Running DG Car Repairs and Tyres Ltd with his wife, this car aficionado has been immersed in the automotive world since childhood. From racing Ministox at age eight to banger racing, rallying, hill climbs, and sprints, his journey is filled with high-octane adventures.
The Influence of Family
Growing up around cars was a given, thanks to a family deeply involved in the automotive scene. This upbringing laid the foundation for a lifelong passion for modifying and racing cars, culminating in the creation of this remarkable 1995 Vauxhall Corsa B.
The Inspiration Behind the Build
A Chance Encounter at Max Power Reunion
The journey to transforming the Vauxhall Corsa B began at the Max Power Reunion show in 2022. Attending the event at the Motor Museum sparked an idea: why not build a Max Power-style car? A chance eBay find led to the purchase of a rough-looking Corsa B. Despite initial scepticism, the potential was undeniable.
From eBay Find to Showstopper
The Corsa B was in a sorry state when first acquired, but the vision was clear. After a long trip to Bedford and an unexpected awareness course, the project car was in hand. Laughter from onlookers only fueled the determination to turn this underdog into a head-turner.
The Build: Transforming the Corsa B
Exterior: A Full Prowler Body kit
The Corsa B now sports a full Prowler body kit, finished in metallic blue with a candy overlay. The boot spoiler, a topic of much debate, remains a mystery whether it's a Kingdom Development or a Velocity. Nevertheless, it looks mint on the car, contributing to its unique appearance.
Performance: A Lively 1.4 8v Engine
Under the hood, the Corsa B boasts a 1.4 8v engine, far from the typical redtop or C20LET swaps. This engine is anything but ordinary, featuring a scatter cam, big valves, a port-polished head, solid lifters, a modified carburettor, and a vernier pulley. Producing roughly 120bhp at the flywheel and revving up to 9000 RPM, this setup ensures a lively performance.
Suspension and Wheels
The car sits on full Spax coilovers, with 17-inch wheels from an MX-5, freshly powder-coated in bronze and wrapped in Nankang NS2R tires. This combination not only enhances the car's aesthetics but also its handling.
Unique Features and Driving Experience
A True Head-Turner
What makes this Corsa B unique is not just its Prowler body kit but also its engine setup. It's rare to see a Corsa B with such a configuration, making it a true head-turner on the streets. The car is lively in dry conditions, though it presents a challenge in the wet with zero traction.
Interior and Sound System
Inside, the modifications are modest but effective. The Pioneer AVH-Z7200DAB head unit controls a robust sound system with Pioneer door speakers, 6x9 rear quarter speakers, and dual 12-inch subs in the trunk. The door cards are made of yellow vinyl, adding a splash of colour to the interior.
Collaboration and Expertise
The transformation of the Corsa B was a collaborative effort. While the owner handled 90% of the bodywork, Scott and Simon at STM Bodyworks took on the paint job. The stereo installation was done by Mr. Tumble, a local legend in car audio.
A Community Effort
This build is a testament to the power of community and collaboration. The support and expertise of local specialists played a crucial role in bringing this project to life.
Future Plans and Aspirations
Looking ahead, the plan is to potentially convert the Corsa B to a 2.0L redtop RWD setup. However, the current build is cherished, and there are plans to revamp the interior to match the exterior's high standards.
Continuous Improvement
The journey of modifying and improving the Corsa B is ongoing. Future enhancements will ensure this unique build remains a standout in the car community.
Special thanks to:
STM Bodyworks for the paintwork

Dream Car
The Ultimate Goal
The ultimate dream is to own a Mk2 Escort RS2000 with the iconic X-pack body kit. This dream car embodies the passion and dedication that drive every project undertaken.
In conclusion, the 1995 Vauxhall Corsa B is a testament to creativity, dedication, and a deep love for car culture. From a rough eBay find to a showstopper, this build showcases the potential of even the most unassuming cars. With its unique features, lively performance, and the community's support, this Corsa B stands out as a remarkable achievement in the world of modified cars.
