A Lifelong Love for Cars

I’m Caleb Allison, an Architectural Designer based in Austin, Texas. My professional life is shaped by my creativity and innovation in architecture, but my true passion lies in automobiles. Since 2008, I’ve been attending and participating in car shows with my dad in Lubbock, Texas, and we continue this tradition today. Our shared love for cars has taken us across the United States, where we've connected with others who share our enthusiasm. These experiences have created lasting memories and deepened our bond.

Hands-On in the Garage

In addition to attending car shows, I’m passionate about working on my own car. Spending time in the garage, tinkering, customizing, and improving my vehicle is my happy place. It’s where I feel most fulfilled, applying my hands-on skills and creativity in a way that’s deeply rewarding.

When I’m not working on cars, I enjoy going on adventures with my wife. We love exploring new places together, making the most of our spare time with trips and experiences that bring us closer.

I’m also a proud member of Team Unlimited, a car club where I connect with fellow enthusiasts and delve deeper into my automotive interests. Being part of this team has transformed my experience with car shows. I now look forward more to hanging out with my team and discussing our builds than anything else. As Jeremy Clarkson aptly puts it, “It’s the car that brings us together and the people that keep us together, but it’s much more than that; it's not just a car, it’s a flood of memories of friends and family and the times that you have had. It’s special; cars are special.”

My interest in cars was sparked by my father's passion for classic muscle cars, and it has only grown over the years. My spark really started to light with the purchase of a 1968 cougar when I was in high school.  The feel of the car when you drove it, the sounds that it made, the rush you got when you put that pedal to the floor!  The engineering marvels, the intricate designs, and the sense of freedom that cars provide are incredibly inspiring.

What encourages me most is the endless possibilities for customization and innovation within the automotive world. Each build is a unique challenge that combines creativity with technical skill, allowing me to express my personality through my car. The community of fellow car enthusiasts also provides constant motivation, as we share tips, stories, and a mutual appreciation for automotive craftsmanship.

A Red Roush S550 Mustang

The S550 Mustang Transformation

Initially, I wasn't a fan of the S550 Mustang when it first came out. However, my perspective changed dramatically when I saw a bagged S550 at Mustang Invasion in Dallas. I remember it vividly. At the time, I was driving a 2007 Roush 427R with the S197 body style. As we pulled into the Mustang Invasion lot, there sat a bright yellow, bagged S550 Mustang. I was in awe of its body lines, fitment, and trunk setup. In that moment, I knew it was time for an upgrade. I sold my 427R Mustang and flew to North Carolina to purchase my Roush Mustang from Lyle Sturgis, the Crazy Mustang Man.

Before we even drove off the lot, I knew the current exhaust wouldn’t suffice—I needed that rumble back, the addiction had begun. After the 20-hour drive home, I was eager to start making the car my own. From that day forward, the car has undergone extensive modifications, transforming it down to nearly every nut and bolt.

Custom Modifications

Describing my build can be challenging due to its many aspects, but a few features usually stand out: the molded wide body, the airlift system, and the wheels. The wide body started as a kit from Stage 3 Performance, but Northeast Customs in San Antonio custom-molded it to fit perfectly with no exposed rivets or seams. Mike at Tunergoods set me up with an amazing set of 2-piece BC forged wheels, ensuring perfect fitment with the wide body. The previous wide body was bolt-on, but I never loved the fitment or how the components came together, so it had to go.

Exterior Enhancements

To complete the exterior, I added several carbon fiber elements: a PP1-style spoiler, a rear diffuser, terminator hood and a custom front splitter for the Roush fascia. The car sits on an Airlift 3P system with a custom trunk and rear seat setup—who needs a back seat anyway? I created a clean rear seat delete to house my air tank and management system, and the trunk features dual air compressors in a custom-lit enclosure.

Interior Upgrades

The interior of my car is completely transformed, leaving nothing stock behind. I replaced the bulky stock seats with premium Braum racing seats, complete with Braum harnesses and a harness bar, all in red to match the car's color scheme. Mustang-carbon.com provided reflective red carbon fiber trim pieces, including a custom steering wheel. I vinyl-wrapped the dash and steering wheel bezels in red to tie everything together seamlessly. Custom upholstery lines the doors, armrest, and rear seat delete, enhancing the overall look. A standout feature at car shows is the large LinksWell radio screen, which always garners attention and comments like, “Check out the screen he has in that thing.” While the exterior is a showstopper, the interior modifications elevate the build to the next level.

There are countless small details on my car that many might overlook, but to me, they define its character. I've spent countless hours in my garage, meticulously working on every aspect of the build. While my passion for this hobby is slowly fading, I hope that when young kids see my car on the road or parked at a show, it sparks enough joy and inspiration to draw them into the car scene.

A Unique Masterpiece

What makes my car unique is the meticulous attention to detail and the extensive customization that sets it apart from any other. It's a true reflection of my passion and creativity, making it a one-of-a-kind masterpiece in the car scene.

Owning my car is an exhilarating and rewarding experience. It's a blend of pride and joy, knowing that every modification and detail reflects my personal taste and dedication. Driving it turns heads and garners admiration, whether it's cruising down the street or displayed at a car show. The performance enhancements make every drive thrilling, while the unique interior and exterior customizations create a sense of individuality and craftsmanship. It's not just a car; it's a manifestation of my passion and creativity, offering a sense of accomplishment every time I get behind the wheel.

Driving my car is an exhilarating experience that combines power, precision, and style. The performance enhancements, such as the supercharger, upgraded exhaust and tuned suspension, provide a thrilling ride with responsive handling and a commanding rumble. Every drive is a head-turning event, with people admiring the unique bodywork and detailed craftsmanship. It's not just about getting from point A to point B; it's about enjoying every moment behind the wheel and feeling the culmination of countless hours of passion and effort.

Who did the work: Roush S550 Mustang

Although I've done most of the work on the car myself, I couldn't have accomplished it without the support of a few key people. Mike Myers from Tunergoods has been instrumental from the start, assisting with everything from suspension upgrades to the various sets of wheels I've gone through. His expertise and collaboration have been vital to the build. Northeast Customs in San Antonio handled all the bodywork and paint, ensuring the car remained polished, ceramic-coated, and show-ready at all times. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail have been crucial in bringing my vision to life.

Future Plans for the Roush S550 Mustang

Currently, there aren't many future plans for the car, as I feel it's in a great place. However, at the end of the show season, I plan to powder-coat the supercharger red to add a bit more flair to the engine bay. I'll also be completing the exterior carbon fiber enhancements with carbon side skirts from Anderson Composites. Finally, I intend to upgrade the brake system to further enhance performance.
