This year's Circuit of the Americas (COTA) event in Austin, Texas, lived up to the hype and then some! It was two glorious days of pure automotive madness, with something for every car enthusiast. From the intoxicating smell of burning rubber and high-octane racing to the stunning display of car show entries, the event was a sensory overload in the best way possible.

The familiar buzz of engines and the friendly faces (both old and new) added another layer of excitement to the experience.  Here's a closer look at the event's highlights, along with exclusive insights from the masterminds behind each key area:

Super Lap Battle: Pushing Limits and Setting Records

We had the pleasure of chatting with Jason Dienhart, the man behind the Super Lap Battle (SLB).  Jason explained how the event evolved from its humble beginnings as a time attack event organized by Super Street Magazine to the international competition it is today. This year, the prestigious Circuit of the Americas provided the perfect stage for the event, and it didn't disappoint.

A new overall time attack record was set by Cole Powelson of Lyfe Motorsports. [Link: https://globaltimeattack.com/2024/03/14/slb2024-results/]  While Jason enjoys the camaraderie of all the participating drivers, he admits it's hard to pick a favourite.  His aspirations for the future? Bringing international teams from Australia and Japan to compete at the 2025 event!

Lone Star Drift: A Passion for Burning Rubber

Next up, we spoke with Aaron Losey, the founder of Lone Star Drift.  Aaron's passion for drifting is infectious, and it all started with a simple desire – to get behind the wheel and shred some tyres!  Since starting the event in 2003, Aaron has piloted over 150 cars and shows no signs of slowing down.  His favourite part?  You guessed it –  still getting behind the wheel and pushing the limits.  While he enjoys seeing the progression of other drivers, Aaron's core message is simple: do what you love and have fun doing it!

Just Vibes: A Showcase for Automotive Excellence

Jeff Maldonado of Just Vibes filled us in on the exciting new format for the car show area, now known as the "Hard Parked Showcase." This reimagined space allows car owners to showcase their meticulously crafted builds at flattering angles, ensuring that every detail is appreciated by photographers, videographers, and fellow enthusiasts.

The focus on "The Selected Few" further elevates the experience, offering a prestigious platform for the most innovative and unique builds.  Jeff's personal favorites?  A tough call, according to him, but a fully built widebody Mustang and a classic VW bus stood out for their distinct personalities.  Looking towards the future, Jeff and his team are dedicated to creating an even bigger and better experience for attendees in 2025, with improved logistics and a revamped selected parking layout.
