Introduction: Scion FRS

My name is Isaiah Murillo, and I’m 22 years old. Originally from Houston, Texas, I now reside in Austin and work as a local truck driver. When I’m not on the road, you’ll find me at car meets, working on cars, taking automotive photos, or gaming.

The Passion for Cars

Like many enthusiasts, my love for cars started young. Movies like Fast & Furious and video games like Need for Speed, Forza, and Midnight Club pulled me into the scene long before I had my first car. My mom also played a role, taking me and my siblings to Lowrider shows, sparking my admiration for customized rides.

How the Scion FRS Came Into My Life

Originally, I drove a 2006 Chevy Cobalt—a car with high mileage, hand-crank windows, and a history of accidents. It was constantly giving me issues, and I knew I wanted something better. My older brother owned an FRS and offered it to me at a price I couldn’t refuse. That’s when my build truly began.

Building the Dream: A Journey of Modifications

I never planned on building an FRS, but once I had it, I knew I had to make it my own. Like most newcomers, I spent countless hours watching YouTube tutorials, reading forums, and researching aftermarket parts. What started as a hobby quickly turned into an obsession—every change brought more excitement, and I couldn’t stop.

The Work Behind the Build

Most of the work on this car was done by me and an amazing group of friends. You guys know who you are, and I’ll always be grateful. Watching tutorials and reading forums helped me tackle specific installations and solve tricky issues.

One of the biggest lessons? Patience. I waited over a year for my front bumper—it had to clear customs and ship from across the world. If you truly want something, persistence is key.

The Impact of My Build

Owning and modifying my FRS has been an emotional rollercoaster. Seeing people’s reactions at car shows or on the street makes all the effort worthwhile. The car is my canvas, my way of self-expression, and it’s incredible to see others appreciate it.

In a world full of FRS/BRZ/GT86 builds, I take pride in making mine stand out. I chose unique parts—like my front bumper and wheels—that you don’t see often. I also decided to stick with the stock body, while many others go widebody. But ultimately, every build is unique, and that’s what makes the car scene great.

Future Plans

Right now, I’m happy with where my build stands, but I have two more upgrades in mind:

  • A custom trunk airlift setup

  • Potential carbon fiber front fenders

After that, I’ll enjoy the car as it is—until I move on to the next project!

Advice for Fellow Enthusiasts

  • Build the car for YOU. It’s great to hear others’ opinions, but at the end of the day, it’s your money and your car.

  • Be patient. The best parts and builds take time. If you want quality, don’t rush it.

Enjoy the process. Modifying cars should be fun, not stressful!

Shoutouts

A huge thank you to my family—you’ve been my biggest supporters from the start. Also, shoutout to my car crew @TeamDiverse—the friendships, advice, and opportunities you’ve given me mean everything.

The Car Scene: More Than Just Cars

Through this journey, I’ve met lifelong friends and created some of my best memories. The car scene isn’t just about builds and modifications—it’s about the community, the people, and the experiences.

Dream Car: Mazda RX-7 FD3S

My ultimate dream car has always been a Mazda RX-7 FD3S. And now, I’m finally in a position where I might be able to own one soon! Fingers crossed that my dream becomes a reality.
