Angel's Automotive Odyssey
Hey there, Stance Auto fam! I'm Angel Flores, your everyday car enthusiast, born and bred in the heart of Los Angeles and now cruising through the streets of Ontario, California in my prized possession - a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. But hey, it wasn't always this way; let me take you on a ride through the twists and turns of my car journey.

Fueling the Passion
Cars, they're more than just machines; they're a culture, a lifestyle. For me, the ignition spark happened in the '90s, an era when the import tuner scene was spreading its wings. Movies like "The Fast and the Furious," the adrenaline rush of "Initial D," and the virtual thrill of games like "Need for Speed" and "Gran Turismo" – they all fueled my growing fascination for the world of wheels. Hanging out with my cousins at car meets, especially when they let me tag along in their Honda Civics, added more fuel to the fire.
Evo: A Dream Realized
I had always wanted an Evo, but it was out of my price range. I finally had enough money to purchase one. At the time, I had no car to drive on a daily basis so I thought what better car to drive than one of my dream cars. When I finally purchased it, I drove it for about two years until I realized I was putting too many miles on it and felt bad. I went ahead and got a regular commuter car and the Evo sat for about a year. I had no intention on modifying it since I had my Nissan for that, especially since I had no clue how to work on it.
Randomly I had decided I wanted to learn more about my Evo so I decided to do more research on it and then got in contact with a shop that specialized in them. Seeing all the awesome builds in the shop and their passion made me want to modify mine. I decided to do some small modifications for power but of course since I had daily driven the car for so long the engine was not that healthy and it blew up on me. I had enough money to buy a brand-new engine and after some thought, I decided I would go all in on my Evo.
The Unique Touch
My Evo has taught me so many things. I feel like it is truly a driver’s car. It handles so well, just driving it puts a smile on my face. Every time I bring it out for a drive I get thumbs up from random people. After putting it through so many phases I have sculpted a car I would have never imagined owning.
At first, I wanted nothing more than for my car to stand out from others so I had many plans for a crazy build. At one point, it even had a big Voltex wing. After a while I grew out of it, I matured and so did my taste in cars. I reverted to a more subtle “stock” look. I started a hunt for rare parts and anything I installed I would try to make it blend in. For example, I have a Greddy bumper cover that I painted the same color as the car so it looks like part of my bumper. Before I knew it, unintentionally, the car had its own unique style; a twist of “OEM plus” so to speak.

Behind the Scenes
When I first decided to mod the Evo a shop called “RPM” in Long Beach helped me a whole lot until they shut down. After that, I met a super cool dude named Joey who has a shop as well and he continues helping me. Anything I feel I can handle, my best friend and I tackle it ourselves. But because I’m a bit of a perfectionist, I’d rather someone with a whole lot more experience handle it. The car is tuned very well by Dardantuned out in San Diego.
Future Plans and Time Capsules
All I want is to make a little more power, but enough to keep the car well balanced. Other than that, I want to collect as many old, rare parts as I can. I want to keep it as clean as I can. I’d like to look back at my car in the future and remember the good ol’ days. In other words, I just want it to be my very own time capsule.
Tips from the Road
One advice I have is to take your time on your build. There is no rushing art. Trust me, you’ll love the journey of building your car to your taste. Enjoy the process, there is nothing better than spending time with friends doing what you love.
Rolling with the Car Scene
The car scene isn't just about metal and horsepower; it's a community. Welcoming, diverse, and always encouraging. Seeing the unique builds and exchanging ideas widens your automotive horizon. Socializing and sharing experiences – that's the real fuel of the car scene.
Shout Outs
Big thanks to the legends who've been part of this journey: @mr2mivin, @joey_sicrabuilt, @em1_yonke, and @dardantuned.
Dreaming Big
I could pick any ride for the ultimate dream cruise, it would be a Porsche GT3 RS.
