Jamie Orman - Forged A3 2.0TFSI K03 Hybrid

The idea after this was to sell it as I had no licence to drive it. However, the more I looked at it and started seeing what they were capable of I could just get rid I had to do something special to it.

Well, all started with my dad having a Sierra Cosworth Sapphire and constantly going on about the escort he had when he was younger. He also was the first person to teach me how to check the oil on a car which would come in handy in the future haha. As I got a bit older I started going out with my brothers mates who were all into cars and went to my first drifting event at Three Sisters Racecourse. Instantly hooked on the smell of decats and tyre smoke and from that, the rest was doing my own cars up and helping people out on their own builds.

Moving on to The A3. It’s a 2006 2.0 TFSI. After my Corsa which was pretty much everyone’s first car I decided I wanted something German turbo and started looking at Ibiza’s, Fabia's, Golfs and the A3s. After a lot of looking, I came across mine. Full-service history, 86k miles, completely standard never tinkered with so I bought it knowing it was a good platform. Don’t think I had the car an hour and it was up on a ramp to get the exhaust done. After that, it was pretty generic stage 1 map, air filter, coil overs and wheels. The idea was stage 2 which would have been a lot cheaper. Then the worst happened after an incident in Blackpool I lost my licence. 2 and a half year ban. The idea after this was to sell it as I had no licence to drive it. However, the more I looked at it and started seeing what they were capable of I could just get rid I had to do something special to it.

The usual A3 is diesel, coil-overs, straight pipe and tints not many people go over the top unless it’s an S3. I decided I wanted to go a bit different so started with a harmless hybrid turbo injectors and intercooler. And after that my plans were to be happy with around the 300bhp Mark. After being mapped issues started coming up.... not the nice ones either timing codes, misfires and clutch started to slip. Unfortunately in my case, the cam pulley decided that it wanted to be free spinning bending most of my valves and marking the pistons. At this point, most people would call it a day and break the car or sell it as a non-runner. I just couldn’t let the car go after having it for such a long time. So my A3 went forged wossner pistons, ZRP rods, head rebuild and a few other mods which will follow. After the forged engine build power isn’t much of an issue on the new engine, however, the hybrid turbo does hold the full potential back.

This means that it’s still an ongoing project. Air ride is going on in the new year and bigger turbo and fuelling system. The aim is to get it to about 450bhp Mark.
