Remember that part up top where I mentioned people having a second chance in life? In March 2019, I purchased a 2015 Ford Edge Sport that was orange and it was a colour that only ran for one year. I owned the car for just over a year,

Have you ever heard those stories where someone seemed to have a second chance in life? I'm one of those stories. My name is Matt Hoover. Born and raised in a small town in Indiana called Albany, about 20 mins southwest of Muncie. Every morning I get up and work as a maintenance technician and an aluminium can-forming factory called CanPack. In my free time, I am an avid bowler and do general maintenance on other vehicles.

The drive to customize everything comes honestly from the family. As a little boy, I remember being in the garage/barn with my grandpa working on everything he was working on, whether it be his two hot rods ('47 Mercury and '47 Ford), his big rig, or anything else he brought into the barn. We actually worked together and did a motor swap in my first car and then later did the same to my next car. Being in the garage working with my hands on a regular basis has helped create who I am today and has helped me hone my skills not only in car customizing but also in my career skill set.

Remember that part up top where I mentioned people having a second chance in life? In March 2019, I purchased a 2015 Ford Edge Sport that was orange and it was a colour that only ran for one year. I owned the car for just over a year, gave it a two-tone wrap, lowered it, and had a nice set of 22" wheels as well as a few other goodies. On May 13th, 2020 I hit a farm tractor pulling some equipment down the road at 9:30 pm doing highway speed (roughly 60mph). I should have never made it out of this accident alive, but that Edge saved my life. I came out with no broken bones and just a large laceration to my face. Not to mention I had a full body kit from Ukraine, which is on my current car now, sitting in the body shop already.

Two weeks after the wreck I found my current Edge in another rare colour. This current car turned into a coping mechanism to help me get passed the wreck, but also for losing one of my best friends about six months after my wreck and it's become what you see now.

Some things just aren't very easily explainable. Any car/truck person knows that feeling they get when you are out and about and someone tells you how awesome your vehicle is. Those times when you are driving down the interstate and people slow down to take videos and pictures of your car.  Those times are just a smile on your face that is just indescribable.

When is the last time you've seen a highly modified Ford Edge? Exactly...There are a lot of things with this car that makes it unique. The body kit that I spoke about came all the way from Ukraine and from what the company has told me, I am the only one in the US with the entire body kit. Moving to the wheels, they originally came off a 2019 SEMA build from Blood Type Racing when they built their 2019 Ford Edge ST.

These wheels are the 22" 3 pieces from AMF Forged. Is something else unique? The hood. The hood is the only one like it. This hood is actually a stock hood that has been modified to install the vents. The centre vent is from a 2015+ Mustang GT500 and then the outside vents are from a 10-14 Mustang GT. Moving to the headlights, they a full custom retrofits with an added projector that acts as a low and high beam.

Moving inside the radio is a custom molded piece to accept the 9" Pioneer radio.

The car is just unique in itself. It's just not something seen often or ever.

Why Not Submit Your Car Build Here

Build List:

  • Livernois tuned (93 octane Stage 4)
  • Colour-matched interior trim
  • Hexis Forged Carbon wrapped interior trim
  • 9" moulded Pioneer radio
  • Micro suede-wrapped steering wheel
  • SS Tuning full fender flare kit
  • SS Tuning front splitter
  • Honeycomb grille
  • Custom retrofit headlights and lower bumper lights
  • Custom hood
  • Glowe Industries full underglow, grill lighting and wheel lights
  • 22X10.5 3 piece +38 AMF Forged F020 wheels (custom powder-coated)
  • AirLift 3P Air Management
  • BC Coilover Suspension converted to air ride
  • Addco 11/8" rear sway bar
  • Front strut brace

The majority of the work has been done by myself. Sometimes you have to know your own limits. Anything paint/bodywork related I have done by Zack White at Seamless Autoworks. Larry Reed did Powdercoating at Bulldog Powder and Fab. Retrofitted headlights were built by myself as well as the lower bumper lights, underglow, grill lighting, and wheel lights. Air ride was also installed by myself.

Future Plans

Moving forward into the seasons coming there is some paint and bodywork that needs to be done. Eventually, the seats will be upgraded to leather with some sort of stitched pattern, but still unsure of the colour. The Hatch area will eventually also get rebuilt. Plan to move the compressors to under the car, switch to two 2.5 gallon air tanks and then do a window reveal in the floor to show the amplifiers and air management. Reveal will also be lit to work along with the rest of the lighting on the outside of the car. Brembo brakes are also on the list of to-dos as well.

Advice/Tips

Never give up. I know that that's pretty generic advice, but it's God's honest truth. This build has REALLY tested me, but I had to force myself not to give up.

You never know what you are REALLY capable of doing until you actually try it. There are a lot of things that were firsts for me with this build and I've learned that I'm capable of those things now.

Shout Outs:

One of the biggest shoutouts needs to go out to @bragginlightz and @nextlevelneo. The retrofit build I did on my headlights was one of those things that were a first for me and he's been more helpful through the building process than I could ever explain.

@ss-tuning.com for working with me on getting the flare kit and front splitter to the US.

@zack_w_white and @seamless_autoworks for getting the hood knocked out and squared away correctly.

What do I get from the car scene we are all a part of, Friends and conversations? The conversations I've had with people have been amazing. Conversations with people of all ages too which makes it that much more enjoyable. The trips to new places I've never been before and the scenery in all those places.

Dream Car:

I'm not sure I could pick one car that would be my dream car. There are so many different cars I would love to have.
