Driving then became my 'Therapy'... long drives with some music on... that chance to zone out and enjoy the drive. Bliss... has helped me get through some tough times over the years.

2007 Honda Civic Type R GT (Fn2)
I can't really remember specifically when my interest in cars began, I know in my later teen years I appreciated Mustangs and American Muscle cars, but also had an eye for Aston Martins too, was purely on the look and the sound.
The first car I ever drove was a Mitsubishi Galant when I was about 17. Surprisingly I drove it straight off! From then on, I knew I was ready to get my license and get on the road. I passed my driving test New Years Eve 2004.
Driving then became my 'Therapy'... long drives with some music on... that chance to zone out and enjoy the drive. Bliss... has helped me get through some tough times over the years.
My very first car cost £100, and was a black and grey Fiesta Festival. She lasted 2 weeks before I rear wheel skidded on black ice and went into a lamp post... write off!
My next car was a White Fiesta Mk 3 (£200 bargain!!) and was a nippy little drive, but also a work horse as I was renovating a house at the time. Then I drove my partner at the times car, a Honda CRX, and fell in love. That's where my heart has stayed, with Honda. In 2007, I then purchased my dream car at the time, a Honda CRX Del Sol in metallic emerald green... Beautiful. A great drive, brilliant in the summer with the Taga roof off. This dream got shattered, when sat in traffic one day and was reversed into by a Transit van minibus, who pulled off around a parked car, panicked as a car was coming and slammed into reverse...she said she didn't even realise I was there. I was gutted. Once again, the car was a write off.
I decided that for my next car, I wanted a higher road position, so started looking at 4x4. I found online a Limited Edition Suzuki Vitara Rossini, Metallic Pink with a white hard top removable roof, Cream Leather interior and sitting on some gorgeous alloys. I travelled to Birmingham, from the Isle of Wight, to get this car. My first time driving on the mainland was driving this beauty home. Loved her. Kept her for a few years until costs were too high then sold her.
After that I had a Metallic Olive Green Rover 45. Nice car to drive, got me from A to B, looked ok. This got written off in a rear end shunt, again I was sat in traffic... I vowed after that no more green cars! I then purchased my third Fiesta, a Blue Mk 4. I kept this car till after I had my 1st child, then I purchased a Gold Rover 25. Family moved house and grew, after a couple of years, another child, so was on the lookout for a bigger car. After getting divorced, and eventually gaining a dog, the rover was sold and the practical daily was purchased, A Citroen Xsara Picasso. I have dubbed it 'The Mummy Mobile'
During the last few years, I'd still go to local shows, still loved cars and wanted a car for myself, but felt I wasn't in any position to do so, as a single mum of 2. A few years down the line with the children now at school and me back working, I realised I was in a position to follow my dream. After a bit of research I had my mind made up on a Honda Civic... and specifically a Type R. Not everyone's cup of tea but that's what was on the cards for me, so I kept my eyes peeled. Viewed a fair few but Type R's were known to be ragged and raced and would have issues etc. Eventually someone a friend knew knew of someone selling one - it was near perfect! That was March this year, 2020. The year of clarity and vision I have said from the start. That same day, in fact it was a matter of hours, she was paid for and delivered to me.

Most of the work has been carried out by Ian at 'The Worxs' / @ianattheworxs. Fitting the Head unit and Sound System, The Springs, Organising the refurbishing of the Callipers as well as removing and refitting them and sourcing and fitting the induction kit...I'm sure will be doing more for me as my purchases occur too. Ian has been my mechanic for a few years now and always ready with truthful advice, reliable and highly recommended!
I've been involved with the online promotion of 'The Riced Out Civic' (Beaut of a Car!), and Laurence has also been helping me fine tune my ideas and fitted a few bits for me too. Looking forward to doing some local events together, all being well, Isle of Wight Classic Car Weekend & Isle of Wight Takeover Ultimate events in September... fingers crossed they go ahead. They will be my 1st shows!
In my journey to find what I wanted for my car, to complete the look I have in mind, I got in touch with Ice_Led Ltd, really helpful through the whole process of deciding what I wanted and the best way to achieve it. I am purchasing my UFO under-glow system, synced with my ambient lighting set up from them currently.
Vibe Audio (@VibeAudio) have been very helpful in assisting me putting together a fitting sound system that both looks and sounds great, and fits well for my car.
Keiron at Toxic Designs (@Toxic_Designs) has been at hand for my decals, including some custom designs
I've joined a few online groups; My Local Group - Wight Modified, Honda Lifestyle UK & Southern Modified UK and been mentioned/featured by UKHondaGroup, ModifiedMisfitsUK, StanceGxng & Dailied.UK to name a few.

I'm also a member of a few UK FN2 groups on Facebook, and on the lookout to joining more! I have found being 1) Female and 2) on an Island, it's harder to get into the car scene as much, as well as my car isn't the most desired either - but that's not the name of the game for me... MY CAR IS FOR ME! I find it's more difficult, and other women I've spoken to have mentioned the same, to be included as much in the scene being a woman, there is still a divide as such. So with this in mind I've set up a chat group and group page for the local car girls, and currently in the process of setting up a 'Glam Meet' for us all, when restrictions allow, to try and bridge the gap, get to know each other and to an enable the ladies to feel more confident at bigger meets and events going forward.
The ongoing aim for the car is to get fittings done, purchases made and her visually where I want her by the Autumn. Next year I may well take a look at how she runs andsounds. I'm loving every stage so far, from the planning, buying and getting her how I want, just for me. I definitely caught the bug. Once I'm happy with her... I'll be saving for the next car on the want list... Honda Integra DC5 Type R!! The collection begins!
Thanks for reading,
Kerry
