1992 Mazda Miata - Sam East
Miatas aren’t known to be fast and with the extra 80-100 horsepower my car makes it satisfies me every time I’m behind the wheel. It clears my head when it’s spinning, it solves any problem in the world, and at the end of the day it’s my happy place

My name is Sam East and I’m from Elk Grove, Illinois, I currently live in Roselle, Illinois and I own several Miata but my 1992 is my favourite
My family has been car centred since I can remember, Mostly on the sales side. My uncle has worked and owned dealerships in the southern part of the country my entire life and even before me my grandpa were the Mercedes king of Tennessee, but unlike my grandpa, I was never attracted to the German side of cars.
I chose the car with a track theme in mind. The car was originally supposed to be a daily while my 4g63 mid-engine del sol build was my project, But after scraping the del sol I did some research on the Miata and saw the aftermarket support being greater than any car I had before it I jumped at the opportunity to modify it
It feels absolutely thrilling to be behind the wheel of my car. Miatas aren’t known to be fast and with the extra 80-100 horsepower my car makes it satisfies me every time I’m behind the wheel. It clears my head when it’s spinning, it solves any problem in the world, and at the end of the day it’s my happy place
I designed the livery myself and chose everything because no one else had it. For my upcoming v3 version of the car, I’ve sourced wheels, tires, a body kit and small items that I’ve rarely seen on Miata. Miatas are a huge market and a lot has been done with the same parts and visions in mind but I wanted to stray away from the classic Miata stereotypes that surround the car. I also wanted one-of-a-kind things so I hand-made my dash and wired everything up myself

Build List:
My Engine set-up consists of a fully forged bottom end with a high compression cylinder head, I’m running rx8 injectors for more fuel, and a 93 octane tune and a circuit works header and catback with a custom test pipe. My Interior is track-inspired with some leisure equipment.
LRB door cards with the stock top cushion wrapped in purple Suede. Sparco Sprint seats, purple Braum racing harnesses, a Moss Miata style/harness bar, IL Motorsports centre console, purple bride shift boot, and moss Miata aluminium shift knob and ebrake handle.
I have a custom colour-matched steering wheel by grip royal attached to an NRG quick-release and short hub. My dash is Made by me using 3 separate 1.6 dashes, some aluminium flashing, and sued fabric. I also added a magnet mount and my iPad for music. The iPad is wired to a head unit that disperses to the speakers. I also have floor mats I made out of diamond plate carpet.
My exterior is a tri-colour 3m vinyl livery designed by me, printed at xtreme graphics and installed by Tuner Customs. It showcases my parts, and sponsors and sets my car apart from anyone else’s. The colours are battleship grey, metallic purple and satin black.
My lighting is from carbon Miata, they supplied my taillights, turn signals, finish panel, canards and side marker lights. Sparco made my headlights, and LRB speed sent out my wing. I have an OEM hardtop and JDM rubber winged side skirts as well as a Eunos Roadster r package lip.
My wheels are JNC010s 16x9 +15 with 205/50r16 waterfall all seasons stretched on them. I currently have Godspeed momo SS coilovers and extended lower control arms for -3 degrees of camber. I upgraded the brakes to 1.8 nb2 brakes because of the bigger pads
I did all the work for my car. Except for the engine, my expertise stops at engine building so I decided to have a shop do all the engine components and tuning.
Future Plans:
I plan on completely redoing the entire car. The interior will stay the same but in the future I plan on putting on a body kit, getting some real wheels and getting rid of my reps. I also plan on putting the car on air suspension for more accessibility. My livery might change but at the current moment, I just might be redoing it.
Advice/Tips
If you plan on doing any custom work. Research and forums are your best friend. It’s never a bad thing to ask for help or to get help. Being stubborn won’t get the car to where u want u could save yourself a few headaches by asking someone for help or seeing if someone else has thought about what you making
Shout Outs:
Shout out to Grip Royal for my steering wheel, and Carbon Miata for all my cosmetic stuff.
That everyone’s different. Sure two cars could look the same but if u look closer they are different. People's cars are an extension of them so making fun of a car or degrading it is the same as talking down to a person. Respect all build is a line people have been saying in the car community for years and if u put it to people it’s the same. Just Respect everyone and if u don’t like something that’s your opinion. At the end of the day, you don’t own the car
