With RWB Porsches, the kits are exclusively manufactured, sold, and fitted by Akira Nakai. To embark on this journey, you must place your order directly with Nakai or through their official distributors. Once approved for an RWB build, the kit is shipped to you. Then, the real work begins – preparing the car, painting the kit, and finally, requesting Nakai-San himself to come to your location. Nakai-san flies in and fits the entire kit to your car within 1-2 days.

To the best of my knowledge, this entire process is unique to Akira Nakai, making each RWB build a one-of-a-kind masterpiece and in limited supply.

The Automotive Phenomenon That Defies Convention

In the realm of automotive enthusiasts, few creations have captured the imagination quite like the RWB Porsche. These rebellious machines are the brainchild of Akira Nakai, a visionary artist and mastermind behind the RAUH-Welt Begriff (RWB) phenomenon. RWB Porsches are not mere cars; they are bold expressions of individuality, blending raw power with artistic flair, and challenging the boundaries of what a Porsche can be.

Unraveling the Enigma of RWB Porsches

How much does an RWB Porsche cost?

One of the first questions that often pops into gearheads' minds when they encounter an RWB Porsche is: how much does it cost? Unlike traditional production car price tags, there's no single answer to this question. The beauty (and perhaps the madness) of RWB lies in its bespoke nature. Every RWB Porsche is a one-off creation, meticulously tailored to the owner's desires.

This means the final cost can vary depending on several factors:

The Donor Car: The starting point for any RWB build is a classic air-cooled Porsche, typically a 930 (better known as the Turbo), 964, or 993 model. The condition and year of the donor car will significantly impact the overall price. A pristine low-mileage example will naturally command a higher premium compared to a project car needing more TLC.

The Extent of the RWB Treatment: There are different tiers of RWB modifications, with varying levels of aesthetic and performance upgrades. A Stage 1 package might include the iconic widebody kit and a subtle rear wing, while a Stage 3 build could involve a complete engine overhaul, an aggressive aero package, and a fully customized interior. The more extensive the modifications, the higher the final cost.

Parts and Personalization: Beyond the core RWB package, owners can further personalize their cars with a vast selection of aftermarket parts and custom touches. This could include anything from a unique paint job and custom wheels to upgraded suspension components and performance exhaust systems. Every additional customization adds to the overall price tag.

A Rough Estimate:  While there's no set price, a ballpark figure for a basic RWB build, including the donor car and a Stage 1 package, could range from $100,000 to $150,000 USD.  Heavily modified Stage 3 builds with extensive personalization can easily push the price well beyond $200,000 USD and even reach territory closer to $300,000 USD.

It's important to remember that owning an RWB Porsche is not just about acquiring a car; it's about the experience. You're collaborating with a team of passionate craftsmen to create a rolling piece of automotive art, a unique expression of your own taste and driving desires.

Akira Nakai RWB Porsche

The Man Behind the Rauh-Welt: Who is Akira Nakai?

The mastermind behind RWB is Akira Nakai, a legendary figure in the Japanese car scene. Nicknamed "The Sultan of Slide" for his drifting prowess, Nakai-san's passion for Porsches began in his youth.  Unlike traditional Porsche purists, Nakai wasn't afraid to modify these iconic machines, pushing the boundaries of aesthetics and performance.

In the early 1990s, Nakai-san founded RWB as a way to create Porsches that reflected his own vision: aggressive, bold, and built to be driven hard.  He strayed from the typical clean lines and opted for a more raw, widebody aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the aggressive silhouettes of early 90s race cars.

One of Nakai-san's signature touches is the hand-built, rivet-on widebody fenders.  This method,  a stark contrast to the precise, machine-made components used by most tuners,  adds a distinctive, almost punk-rock character to each RWB build.

Nakai-san's dedication to individuality extends beyond aesthetics. He prefers to build relationships with his clients, understanding their driving style and preferences before putting his unique touch on their Porsche. This collaborative approach ensures that every RWB creation is a true reflection of its owner's personality.

Is a RWB Porsche Road legal?

The legality of RWB Porsches can be a complex subject, as it varies depending on the specific country or region where the vehicle is intended to be driven. In general, RWB conversions are not inherently illegal; however, they may require certain modifications to meet local road safety and emissions regulations.

In some countries, RWB Porsches may need to undergo additional inspections and certifications to ensure compliance with vehicle standards. This can include adjustments to lighting, suspension geometry, and other components that may have been altered during the conversion process.

It's crucial for prospective RWB owners to research and understand the specific regulations in their area, as well as consult with local authorities or reputable builders to ensure their vehicle meets all legal requirements for road use.

How rare is an RWB Porsche?

RWB Porsches are incredibly rare, as each one is a meticulously crafted, one-of-a-kind creation. Nakai-san and his team at RWB take on a limited number of projects each year, ensuring that every vehicle receives the utmost attention to detail and personalization.

To put it into perspective, it is estimated that fewer than 200 RWB Porsches exist worldwide, making them among the rarest and most sought-after custom Porsches on the planet. The combination of their exclusivity, handcrafted nature, and the cult-like following they've garnered contributes to their scarcity and desirability among collectors and enthusiasts alike.

What's so special about RWB Porsches?

RWB Porsches are special for several reasons that transcend mere performance or aesthetics. These vehicles are a testament to the passion and craftsmanship of their creator, Akira Nakai, who has elevated the art of customization to new heights.

Firstly, each RWB Porsche is a unique, handcrafted work of art. Nakai-san meticulously sculpts and reshapes the body panels, creating a wide, aggressive stance that commands attention on the road. The attention to detail and artistic vision that goes into every RWB conversion is truly remarkable, making each one a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Secondly, RWB Porsches embody a rebellious spirit that defies convention. They challenge the traditional notion of what a Porsche should be, pushing boundaries and redefining what is possible in automotive design. This fearless approach to creativity has earned Nakai-san a dedicated following among enthusiasts who appreciate the audacity and individuality of his creations.

Furthermore, the exclusivity of RWB Porsches adds to their allure. With only a handful of these vehicles being produced each year, owning an RWB Porsche is a true privilege reserved for those who appreciate rare and exceptional works of automotive art.

A Sensory Experience

Beyond their visual impact, RWB Porsches offer a sensory experience like no other. The deep rumble of the modified exhaust, the wide stance that hugs the road, and the visceral thrill of commanding such a powerful and artistic machine – it's an experience that ignites the senses and fuels the passion of true automotive enthusiasts.

RWB Porsches are more than just cars; they are living, breathing embodiments of automotive artistry, pushing the boundaries of what is possible and inspiring a new generation of enthusiasts to embrace the rebellious spirit of automotive customization.

The Rarity of RWB: Owning a Piece of Automotive Exclusivity

The exclusivity of RWB Porsches is another factor that contributes to their allure. Unlike mass-produced cars rolling off assembly lines, each RWB creation is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. This exclusivity stems from several key aspects:

The Bespoke Build Process:  As mentioned earlier, RWB builds are not one-size-fits-all affairs.  Nakai-san and his team work closely with each client, tailoring the modifications to their specific desires. This personalized approach ensures that no two RWB Porsches are ever exactly alike.

Limited Production Numbers:  Due to the handcrafted nature of the builds and Nakai-san's meticulous attention to detail, the number of RWB Porsches produced each year is relatively low. This limited production further adds to the exclusivity of these cars.

Global Clientele: RWB's reach extends far beyond Japan.  Porsche enthusiasts worldwide vie for the opportunity to collaborate with Nakai-san and his team. This international demand, coupled with the limited production capacity, makes owning an RWB Porsche a truly unique experience.

Owning an RWB Porsche goes beyond simply possessing a car. It's about joining a global community of passionate enthusiasts who share a love for pushing boundaries and celebrating individuality. It's a badge of honour, a symbol of your appreciation for Nakai-san's vision and the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into each build.
