2008 Porsche 911 Targa 4S - 997.2 OEM Facelift - Dominic Chung

I have owned many different cars in my life so far (RX7, Supra, 240sx, M3, M5, E55, WRX, and Hondas, just to name a few), but there has always been a special place in my heart for a Porsche.

I was born and raised in San Francisco. A proud father of 2 boys and husband to a beautiful wife. My parents are Vietnamese refugees and left their home for America to provide my brother and sisters with a better life. I almost went to trade school to become a mechanic because of my love for cars but my brother convinced me to focus on my degree in Finance and Accounting. So now I have been working in Finance and Accounting for over 14 years.

I currently run the Accounting operations for a tech company in San Francisco that builds and operates autonomous self-driving cars. When I am not working on my car, I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, working out and playing basketball.

When I was young, I was always into anything with wheels. Whether it was a bike, truck, car or even an SUV. And I loved tinkering with things and wanted to understand how my toys worked. So I would take them apart and put them back together. As I got into my teenage years, a lot of my friends and family were into modifying cars during the late 90s and early 2000s. This was the time when Fast and Furious and Hot Import Nights were very popular. This is what got me interested in the car scene.

I have owned many different cars in my life so far (RX7, Supra, 240sx, M3, M5, E55, WRX, and Hondas, just to name a few), but there has always been a special place in my heart for a Porsche. Growing up as a little kid, my dad and I would always check out Porsches that we would see on the road.

We always talked about getting a Porsche one day so it was kind of a dream come true. As I got older and more financially stable, I was able to start my search for a Porsche. I sold my E90 M3 which I loved and found this beautiful 997 Targa 4S as a worthy replacement. Driving a Porsche feels different from any other car I have driven. You feel very connected to the car and the handling is amazing. I like the attention as it is always turning heads.

I wanted to modify my car to be different from all of the other Porsches out there. I wanted the modifications to be tasteful and unique at the same time. The original paint is basalt black metallic which is an amazing colour but I wanted the car to stand out more. My friend recommended that I wrap it in Inozetek midnight gold metallic which you can see is its current colour. With that, I wanted to continue the gold theme, so a Brey Krause harness bar was purchased and was custom anodized gold to match. The Work Meister wheels were rebuilt using gold hardware and gold stickers as well.

I do most of the work on my car and installed most of the aftermarket parts myself. For any major engine or transmission work, I will bring it to a shop. The wrap was installed professionally by a shop.

Future Plans

I plan to continue the tasteful and unique theme of my car with a few different upgrades that I have lined up for the car. The first plan is to install an Indecent widebody kit. To help protect the widebody kit, I plan to install a HybridAir airlift kit so I can raise the front to clear driveways and speedbumps. I was thinking about keeping the gold colour for the new widebody kit but I might move towards a green vinyl wrap colour change. Last and not least I have been interested in getting a supercharger kit to add some additional performance.

Advice/Tips

The main tip I have for people getting into the car scene is to modify your car the way you like it. Don't worry about what other people think. If you like your car to look a certain way or to be a certain colour then do it.

Shout Outs

Gifted Lifestyles and Artistik Velocity Racing

Gifted Life Styles Merch

I enjoy the camaraderie of the car scene. Being able to enjoy and spend a good time with fellow enthusiasts who have an interest in cars. Whether it is going to a car show or a car meet. Being able to meet new people and share my love for cars is my main gain.

Dream Car

The Porsche was one of my main dream cars. My next dream car would probably be a McLaren 650S or 720S or a RWB Porsche 964
