Ash McGuire - Bagged Vauxhall Corsa E 1.4 Turbo

I grew up playing the need for speed games (underground 2, carbon, most wanted) watching the fast and furious films back when it was about the cars and the street racing, it was from that point that I knew that whatever car I drove, I would want to modify it.

I'm Ash, I'm a 26-year-old car fanatic from Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. I work in security working on film sets, asset protection for the FA and the odd nightclub door here and there. From a very young age I became obsessed with cars, my dad was a mechanic and owned his very own garage. He would always have his project on the driveway which was a fully restored 2.8-litre Granada estate, gear X automatic. From about age 6, I would be outside with him, passing him tools, looking at how things came apart, how things worked, what parts did ect. I would always get under the car with him at every opportunity.

Then I grew up playing the need for speed games (underground 2, carbon, most wanted) watching the fast and furious films back when it was about the cars and the street racing, it was from that point that I knew that whatever car I drove, I would want to modify it.

Why this car? I hear you ask. Well, it's very simple. My first car was a stock Y reg ford fiesta, it was great fun, all 73 brake horsepower of it. But unfortunately, the clutch blew up, the front arms were bent to hell and it just cost way more than the car was worth to fix, so the next day I went to the Vauxhall dealership, now I have to say I did plan on looking around all the other makes and models of cars (BMW, Audi, Volkswagen etc) but as soon as I laid eyes on this, I fell in love with it. There is just something about the shape of it, the look of it that I just loved.

Owning this car is honestly such a good feeling, despite the Mcdonald's jokes, I don't care. I know that Corsa has a bad reputation but whenever I walk away from the car, I look back at least twice, that is how I know that I have picked the right car and I am proud of the work that has been done to it. I get cars beeping at me and waving when I'm in traffic or driving down the motorway, I get kids and their mums and dad admiring my car when I drive down the road to the shop and as a car enthusiast, that is the best feeling I could ever ask for because I was once that kid admiring cars. Well, I still am that kid, I'm just a bit bigger now haha.

If I could give anyone any advice when it comes to owning this car, don't listen to other people's opinions, just enjoy it. You must get the turbo version of this car, I have driven my mate's non-turbo version and it's a lot slower. The acceleration on these cars is very good but since I remapped it to stage 1 it's alot better. Make sure you upgrade the air intake system and the exhaust system and this does make a difference in my opinion.

The downside to these cars is the radiator fan and the resistor are made out of chocolate, so they are not the most reliable. Apart from that, I have had no issues whatsoever with this car. Make sure you service it regularly and change the spark plugs and coil pack every now and then.

Parts for this car can be quite expensive but that's like any car tho. If you're looking to modify these cars, some things you can pick up for quite cheap at shows (love a good show deal) or on eBay. Other things like side skirts, splitters ect are a bit pricey especially if you go through splitters as I do, I'm on my third one now. The best place for these is from TRC (triple r composites). When you get this car, you want to lower it straight away, no one likes arch gaps.

For me, my car stands out from every other Corsa I've seen just simply because of the colour scheme I have done and the fact it's bagged. I was at a little car meet recently. I just sat in my car playing around with my air suspension and I looked up and there were a few people standing nearby pointing and smiling. They came over, took photos and had a little chat about the car.

This car is more of a head-turner than a drag strip demon. So what have I done to this car so far? Well here is a list of modifications.

Engine -

  • Stage 1, 200 bhp, 290 nm torque
  • Air intake system upgrade
  • Straight pipe custom exhaust
  • Self-painted engine bay in Cadburys purple.

Suspension -

  • 3P bagged performance air suspension with BP-1 management.

Exterior -

  • TRC front splitter
  • TRC side skirts
  • Purple fog lights
  • Purple underglow
  • Front canards
  • Sunstrip and stickers (who doesn't love a cheeky sticker)
  • Heko wind deflectors with purple pinstripe.

Interior

  • Self-painted dash in Cadburys purple
  • Thanos themed wrapped boot build for the air tank.

Wheels -

  • Diamond cut Vauxhall alloys

Refurbished and re-coloured in Cadburys purple.

Brakes - I always go with Brembo.

I and my dad started modifying this car, sunstrip, lowered it on coilovers, upgraded the air intake and then he sadly passed away in 2019, and I swore I would finish the car off.

I can't take credit for all of the work I must admit, the side skirts, splitter, fog lights and underglow I fitted myself. The exhaust system was done by ARO exhausts. The air suspension was supplied and fitted by @bagged_performance along with the boot build also.

The interior and engine were also done by myself. If I have any mechanical issues that I'm not sure about, then I can always rely on friends at @fourpawracing in Huntingdon to lend a helping hand. These guys have looked after me for years and have become very good friends after I met the owner on a job once. The wheels were refurbished and painted by @thealloyguys

Looking for a new club? Have a look at the ones featured on our site HERE

The car scene has its ups and downs just like anything, but the car scene has done alot for me, I've made some really good friends for life, and it's given me a sense of belonging which is really nice, I love hosting meets and going to other clubs meets, I love going to shows and displaying my car and watching from a distance as people admire it and getting tagged in stories "spotted" it's honestly such a good feeling, I'm not a massive fan of the early morning wake up's tho.

I own my own car club based in Hemel, Tuned drivers division #TDD, we are on Facebook and Instagram @tddofficial_ and we host meets, put together club stands and do a fair bit of merchandise. I'm also a part of a lot of other clubs as well. I'm am also a part of stand supreme (@stand_supreme) which is a group started by my friend Laura to support those struggling with mental health and bullying not just in the car scene but in general and it is something that I have watched grow from the very start and I hold very dear to my heart. Be sure to go and check out the amazing work Laura is doing!
