2019 Toyota GT86 - Andy Garside

With the car having a boxer 2.0L engine the handling on the car is absolutely phenomenal - it literally feels like a go-kart when taking it around sharp corners. When I attend car shows, I will always get people coming up to me and commenting on the car, wanting to take pictures and discussing the build spec, which in itself is an amazing feeling.

I’m a 23-year-old former World & British champion kickboxer, Currently working as a CNC Machinist with 5 years in the engineering environment. After leaving school, I went straight into engineering and have loved it ever since. My current hobbies include working on my GT86, attending car shows with my car club and getting tattooed.

After years of growing up playing car games alongside watching endless car-related videos and movies, I began to grow a passion for them. I was taken to some of the local car shows by my dad and from there I knew I wanted to be a part of the car scene! I saw a Toyota GT86 parked up one day in a car park and it really got my attention. I went home that night and started doing extensive research into the car and after seeing the potential and market for it, it grew on me and I went out and bought mine!

Knowing the market for this car, I knew there were so many routes I could take my GT86. Having the club series edition of this car made me want to modify the car even more knowing not many people would modify this edition of the car to the extent that I have.

The fact that it's the club series edition and the amount of work I have put into it really makes it unique. The majority of parts that I have installed on the car are all genuine Japanese TRD parts that have been imported, alongside Cusco and many other highly reputable aftermarket car brands.

Doing the majority of the installation myself has really opened my eyes to the world of cars, learning from mistakes and now know I can help others out that also have Toyota GT86s.

Future Plans

For the most part, I have got the car to where I want it now. There are some extreme changes that I could potentially undergo in the future including turbocharging the car and also widebodying!

Advice/Tips

Anyone looking for a car that looks great and sticks to the road like glue, the 86 platform is where you want to be. The majority of the community is extremely helpful and very likeminded when it comes to modifying the 86. Be sure to do your research on the car first and make sure it's definitely the car you want to go for. Modding wise, there are countless websites that have hundreds of choices - the only limitation is how much money you have.

Groups/Shout Outs

I run a car club called Team Absolute Power

We can be found via Facebook and Instagram.  I created the group alongside my best friend in 2020, now having over 20+ active members that all have a serious passion for modding their cars and devoting their life to cars. We have just recently won the best club stand award at the Unity automotive show and hopefully many more to come! The group is very down to earth and each member is just a phone call away if someone needs a hand with their car.

Meeting like-minded individuals who really have the same passion for cars that I do. After now being in the car scene for 3+ years, the countless people who I have met spoke to or hung out with have been great.

Dream Car

My dream car would be the Honda NSX as it is just a beast of a car!
