Dan Potts: From Car Enthusiast to Fundraising Warrior

Discover the remarkable journey of Dan Potts, a passionate car enthusiast, and his relentless determination to make a difference while battling an aggressive brain tumour. Join the charity car meet event on Saturday, June 24th, to support his fundraising efforts and raise awareness for Brain Tumour Research UK.

Story: Zoe Johnson

Dan Potts, my older brother and role model, ignited my love for cars at a young age. I vividly remember the day he arrived at our house in a modified RX7, taking me for an exhilarating ride that sparked a lifelong fascination with automobiles.

However, life took an unexpected turn for Dan. For years, he suffered from intense headaches, attributing them to a trapped nerve. In December 2021, while attempting to send a text message, he noticed his words transformed into gibberish. This alarming sign led to a diagnosis that shattered our world: Dan had a large brain tumour.

With urgency, Dan underwent surgery to remove a significant portion of the tumour, but the biopsy results delivered devastating news. He was diagnosed with an Unmethylated, Wild-Type Glioblastoma Grade 4, a highly aggressive form of cancer. Alone in an open ward, he received this life-altering information.

Despite enduring gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments for six weeks, Dan now faces epilepsy and incapacitating seizures. He had to surrender his driving license and bid farewell to his beloved Corvette ZO6. Given a life expectancy of 12-18 months, Dan decided to dedicate his remaining time to raising funds for three charities, with the goal of creating a final memory with his devoted wife, who now cares for him full-time.

One of the charities Dan has chosen to support is Brain Tumour Research UK. Recognizing the lack of research and funding for brain tumours, he is determined to make a lasting impact. As his sister, I, along with the incredible members of Modified Addicts, a car club, have organized a charity car meet in his honour. The event will take place on Saturday, June 24th, from 9 am to 4 pm at The Motorist in Sherburn-in-Elmet.

The charity car meet promises a day filled with club stands, trophies, and an exciting raffle featuring generously donated prizes. We are immensely grateful to the Yorkshire Modified Show and Modified Nationals for their support in our fundraising efforts.

Dan's inspiring story is available on the Brain Tumour Research website, and he recently shared his journey on ITV News, raising vital awareness for this under-researched cancer.

Conclusion:

Join us in celebrating Dan Potts' unwavering spirit and his determination to make a difference. Support the charity car meet on June 24th, as we unite as car enthusiasts to help raise funds and awareness for Brain Tumour Research UK. Together, we can drive towards a future where brain tumours receive the attention they deserve.
