Chris Glossop - Audi A6 Avant 2.0tdi Special Edition

The car is 10years old, but in my opinion, it’s aged well, the paintwork is in good condition and no major age related marks.

Chris Glossop,

Audi A6 Avant 2.0tdi Special Edition

Married with 2 beautiful children.

I spend lots of time out and about with the family on holidays, road trips, days out etc. This is the reason I have the car I currently own.  I’ve worked in banking for the last decade, I work hard, I love my job and It helps to fund my cars allowing me to add my own little touches to make them personal.

I always remember as a young child being able to name all the cars my Dad and I drove passed. Fascinated by the different shapes and styles of car, getting excited when a ‘fast car’ went past. I was unsure how it all worked but just loved being in and around cars. This, for me, is where it all began.

I’ve owned several cars over the years, a few to call out as my most modified would be an MK1 Renault Clio 1.4RT (1st car) that underwent a max power style makeover and an MK7 Ford Escort that again looked like something out of the fast and furious. I developed my love for the Volkswagen Group of manufacturers about 10 years ago and I have owned 2 MK4 Golf, an MK1 Leon Cupra and my current A6 and just love the variety of cars available within the VW group.

I currently own an Audi A6 Avant 2.0tdi Special Edition (Facelift) C6. I opted for the Avant as I need the massive boot and generally wanted a big car to accommodate family needs. It’s not the fastest by any means, but I love it. It has been tuned to 200bhp/ 400Nm and does pull well for a big car. It does everything I need it to do as a daily, whilst still fun when I’m in the car without the kids. Only a few modifications completed and they include;

  • Stage 1 remap,
  • Window tints,
  • Gloss black OEM grill,
  • Small bulb upgrades,
  • Boot organiser
  • Customised the wheels by powder coating them shadow chrome.

The car is 10years old, but in my opinion, it’s aged well, the paintwork is in good condition and no major age related marks. The car is subtle and I really like the way it sits. I’m not wanting it to look modified, as I just like to have a nice, clean, pristine example and therefore with this car I wanted to keep modifications to a minimum and keep the car OEM looking with subtle changes. I don’t have any further plans for modifications (although I can’t help myself) and I like how it looks. The one thing I am meticulous with is keeping it clean and well maintained. My daughter, who is now 5 years old, regularly helps me clean the car (mainly the snow foam bit) and it’s nice she gets involved and we have fun messing with bubbles.

I’m really into detailing cars, keeping the paintwork in good condition, buying and using a variety of products to clean and protect the paint, wheels, glass and leather. I spend hours cleaning and perfecting the finish and really feel rewarded when achieving a deep gloss shine. You can’t beat a shiny car glistening in the sun!

I spend a lot of my spare time with a good friend of mine Matt Temprell, who I met through car groups and we both share a passion for our avants. We spend days cleaning and maintaining our vehicles as well as having a laugh whilst doing it. Matt and I have recently taken interest in auto photography and started a new venture with MJ Photography. We are always out on drives around the local countryside, spirited drives through the Peak District and local area. We are always on the lookout for new locations for a photoshoot. I feel I’ve made a friend for life and it’s related to the amazing way the car scene brings people together. A friend of mine Steve Lee had lost his passion for the car scene, just lost the love for it. Steve reluctantly attended a meet, not really bought into it due to losing touch, but still came and actually really enjoyed the day. Success, he’s now back into the car scene and we regularly meet up. I feel that having such a positive influence was very rewarding and I’m touched that I have provided some positive inspiration, again making another good friend in the process.

I’ve always enjoyed being part of the car scene in some way shape or form, from mini local meets to car shows and weekends away with car clubs. I’ve always tried to get involved and attend events where possible. One thing I really like about the car scene is that you meet some amazing people and build great friendships. 4 people I want to mention are Matt Temprell (again), Adam Crooks, Santa Kampare and Nat Togher who I’ve worked with to help set up our own enthusiast group. It was set up for anyone who owns or shares an interest in VW, Audi, Skoda or Seat estates. ‘VAG Estate Owners Group’ was created in April 2020 and we have built and grown the group to now over 1500 members. It’s a family-friendly group and we aim to bring together the whole Volkswagen Group of manufactures, focusing on the estate variants specifically. Since setting up we have expanded our team as the group has grown at pace, subsequently, I’d also want to mention Jade Turnham, Mark Fannon, Jack Whyman Farina, Dan Quartley, Lewis Boughey and Kurt Baker who I consider to be good friends. We have all been brought together by our passion for cars and our combined desire to run a fantastic group for our members.

The group itself is very busy, and once we can get back to some form of normality, we will be doing more and more.  We have regular competitions and giveaways, offer a range of group merchandise, work with sponsors offering group member discounts and we generally aspire to run a welcoming, interactive, thriving group of like-minded VAG estate owners/ enthusiasts. We have worked hard behind the scenes to make the group a success, however, the group was created as Covid lockdowns began and as such has restricted our group's growth and ability to organise events etc. We have plans for the group and aim to have a big presence in the car scene with lots to come including meets, events, shows and much more.

Find us on Facebook -  ‘VAG Estates Owners Group’, feel free join the group and get involved. We have an Instagram page where you’ll see members' cars, some stunning wagons on there with regular features too, check us out @vag.estates.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my feature and thanks for making it to the end of my write up. I hope to see you in our group, at shows, or events etc. If you see me or my Avant, then don’t be shy, give me a wave.
