A JDM Import: 1992 Honda Civic SiR

While my Honda Civic holds a special place, if I had to choose another dream car, it would be a 1997 Nissan Skyline GTR V-spec. The automotive world offers endless possibilities, and each car has its unique charm

Meet Dave, the Car Enthusiast from Colorado

Hi all I’m Dave I’m a Mechanical Design Engineer, I’m 42 and grew up in Colorado, USA. Currently living in Tennessee, USA. I’ve been into cars since I was a kid going to car shows with my father and his 1975 Chrysler Newport. I remember washing and waxing the car the day before and getting up early on a Saturday morning to go look at all the old cars. Then on Sundays, we would hit the junkyard for spare parts, and since I was little at the time I was the one to have to crawl up under the dash or tight space to get that part we needed.

From Muscle Cars to JDM Dreams and a Honda Civic SiR

I own a 1992 Honda Civic SiR imported from Japan. When I was younger I was into the old muscle cars and dreamt of having a 1969 Chevy Chevelle, As I grew older into my teens back in the mid to late 90’s, I started to fall in love with these small Japanese cars that I kept seeing running around town that were slammed to the ground and had these loud mufflers. Fast forward to my adult years and many failed attempts at trying to recreate my memories through other “show cars”, I finally got my hands on this car.

I have owned several early 90’s Honda hatchbacks including a USDM ‘95 Si that was turbo’d, but at that time I was still young enough to make stupid decisions, and I sold it. When I found this car years later it reminded me of “the one that got away” and I knew I had to have it. As soon as I got my hands on it I had to modify it to make it my own.  This car is by far my favourite out of all the cars I’ve owned throughout the years, and the looks I get from regular traffic while I’m driving makes for even the shortest drives a blast

Car Advice/Tips

If you are on the fence about whether or not you should buy one, I’m here to tell you that they aren't getting any cheaper so buy it now and just enjoy the car. If you told little kid me that I would spend as much as I have on a Honda Civic, I would have told you that you were crazy. Adult me has zero regrets.

It can be annoying to spend money replacing old OEM parts with new OEM parts and not aftermarket stuff but let me tell you new window molding, rubber door seals, having your factory valve cover re-powder coated back to its original wrinkle black, and stuff like that really goes a long way to clean a car up. Also, don’t let someone else build your car, and by that I mean don’t let someone else tell you what mods you should do to your car. Besides it being right-hand drive, I would like to think it's the attention to detail and the way modifications have come together to complement each other. Plus there is a lot of carbon fiber and everyone likes carbon fiber lol.

The Work on the Honda Civic SiR

The paint and mild wire tuck were done in Japan by the previous owner there, everything else I have bought and installed myself. The Recaro seats were a little tricky since they don’t belong in the car, so I had to design and make the custom mounting brackets myself.

Future Plans for the Honda Civic SiR

Next on the list is a JUN Valve cover, then completely redo the suspension with K-tuned parts, add a big brake kit, and then have the whole car painted back to its original color which is Lausanne Green Pearl. I have also kept all of the original JDM parts for when I want to put the car back to factory fresh.

The Car Scene

I was a head member a long time ago for a club called Barely Legal. We haven't been a club in a while. It became too much work and sucked the fun out of it. The car community has given me so much, I have met so many amazing people who would go out of their way to help you. We all have each other's backs, and it's always a good time when we can all get together.

Dream Car

I am very lucky because this car is one of my dream cars, but if I had to pick a different car I would have to say a 1997 Nissan Skyline GTR V-spec.
