Meet Nick: The Artist Behind Loki the Lupo
Hi, I’m Nick, a 35-year-old tattoo artist from the West Midlands. In 2022, I embarked on a thrilling journey when I purchased and began modifying my VW Lupo. My passion for this project was ignited after spotting a club stand of Lupos at a VW car festival. Before that moment, I had never even noticed a Lupo. But witnessing the subtle modifications and performance upgrades others had made, I knew I had to own one. Now, two years later, I proudly present my unique build—Loki the Lupo.
The Marmite Car: Love It or Hate It
I often refer to my car as a "Marmite car"—you either love it or hate it! But honestly, I don’t mind; it’s all about the love and fun that went into creating it. Every aspect of this build reflects my desire to be different. For instance, I’ve installed a full Vibe subwoofer setup, replacing the rear seats entirely. The Aez Joey Green alloys are colour-matched to the original body paint, adding a seamless yet striking look. Inside, the VW Golf Mk4 leather seats have been dyed tan, perfectly complementing the rest of the interior.
The Spoiler: A Fun Twist on Functionality
One of the most talked-about features is the spoiler. While it serves no practical purpose, it adds a fun and distinctive touch to the car's overall design. Under the bonnet, you'll find a Sprogley cold air intake, a stainless steel manifold, and a custom exhaust system. And just for the fun of it, I’ve added a Lego battery cover and rocker cover—because why not? The car is lowered on JOM coilovers and spacers, has bonnet vents, LED headlights, and a host of other quirky modifications that make Loki the Lupo truly one of a kind.
The Build List: A Passion Project
Loki the Lupo boasts a 1.4L engine with 110bhp, enhanced by a Sprogley cold air intake and a stainless steel manifold. The car proudly retains its original colour, Taffeta Green, which looks stunning on a sunny day. Sitting on JOM coilovers and spacers, the Aez Joey alloys complete the exterior look. But my favourite part of the build has to be the interior. The Vibe subwoofer setup draws attention wherever I go, especially at car shows and meets. Finished in tan leather, the interior contrasts beautifully with the dark green exterior, making the car both comfortable and stylish.
Future Plans: Taking Loki to the Next Level
The journey doesn’t stop here. I’m currently sourcing a Max Power-style body kit to take Loki to the next level. I’ve always admired the unique and extreme looks of Max Power cars; they showcase a person’s personality and passion in the most vibrant way. I also plan to enhance the audio system further by adding mids and tweeters for better sound clarity. Stay tuned—there’s much more to come!
Shout Outs and Acknowledgments
This build wouldn’t have been possible without the support and inspiration from the car community. Special thanks to all those who have offered advice, encouragement, and parts along the way. Loki the Lupo is more than just a car; it’s a reflection of creativity, passion, and the love for standing out in a crowd.
