1993 Mazda RX7 Type R Bathurst -Jay Milla

I get so much attention every time I bring it out and drive on the right side of the car. I made a lot of people confused on that one haha. It was a challenge learning how to drive on the right side I tell you that. It is a true honour in driving and owns a legendary FD3S chassis RX7.

I am Jay Milla and I am a full-on Active Duty Military in the Navy.  Been in the service for 15 years, and I met wonderful people during this period of time.

I am from San Diego, California and I enjoy cars, mainly the old 80's and 90's jdm cars, it became an unstoppable hobby for me. I am a single dad as well, I have a 5-year-old son and my plan is for him to own the RX7 when he reaches that age. Cars are my way to release stress, meet people in the same scene and express myself to others. My first car is actually a 2004 Nissan 350z when I was in Virginia and it was a blast owning one!

What got me into cars and the scene, Yeah I am not going to lie with this one, first off my Dad. He got me into this mess haha! He was a Toyota mechanic back in his homeland, the Philippines. He always wanted me to be with him every time he works in his car and in the dealership!

I remember when I was 8 or 9 years old my dad brought me to the dealership he was a part of before, and to my surprise there it is, for the first time my eyes feasted on a Mk4 Toyota Supra and it was amazing! Second, the fast and furious Tokyo Drift, hence my first car back in the 2009 - 2010 timeframe. The drifting and the quality of the cars in that movie are just insane! DK inspired me to get the 350z back then and it was history from there on. Then it became a lifestyle and a forever hobby for me.

I chose to own an RX7 as it is one of my favourites and a dream JDM car, the unique body lines, the subtle look of it in all its glory, and the attention to detail that Mazda engineers put in. I mean, what is not there to love it right? My vision on this car is to keep everything 90's around it and make it look like a clean OEM plus as me personally, I don't want to mess with the body integrity or widebody it out. To each of their own is what I go with when it comes to customizing their own cars. I respect all builds accordingly.

To this day, it feels unreal. Having one of my dream cars and driving it, is an amazing feeling that you can't compare to anything. It always brings a smile to my face when I drive it, the way it looks while I drive it and the way it looks when I park it, both are marvellous views from my perspective. I get so much attention every time I bring it out and drive on the right side of the car. I made a lot of people confused on that one haha. It was a challenge learning how to drive on the right side I tell you that. It is a true honour in driving and owns a legendary FD3S chassis RX7.

The thing that makes my car unique is that it is part of the "Legendary" 90's Japanese Cars. The fact that is part of it makes it stand out in the crowd. Factoring the modifications that it has to make it look subtle and clean makes it unique to its own class as well. The clean OEM Chaste White colour is always a head turner and I always ask my friends and other people, when was the last time you see an RX7 with a 326power wing?

What do you think?

Who did the work?

The majority of the work was done by me and my brother. Body work was done by Moonlightrunners in Garden Grove, California, engine work was done by me and my friend Harvey, tuning was done by DK at itsgaragelife. All regular work and maintenance are done by me and my friends at sd.garage here in San Diego.

Future Plans

Will going to put in the HKS t51r single turbo system, we will build and port the engine soon, tuning, and changing my wheel setup for the new year and might change the OEM chaste white to a different colour, only time can tell.

Advice/Tips

My advice is to follow your path, do not do this to please others but to please yourself. Real parts over replica parts, you don't want to do double work. Learn how to appreciate all builds and be down to Earth. Lastly, be patient with your build, don't rush it. Good things come to those who persevere, keep grinding until they reach their goal and keep going forward.
