Hi, I’m Neil Jones, a maintenance technician from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.

You can find me and my E92 M3 on Instagram: @jonesy1975.

I’ve been into cars for as long as I could drive with my mates, but my first car was given to me by my grandad... An Austin Allegro 1700 Super!

I’m not really from a family of car nuts, although my Dad used to have a new car every year as he worked at Rover so MG, Maestro, Montego etc...

I’ve had a more interesting car history, however. My cars to date include Renault 5 GT Turbo, Renault 19 16v, 1984 Escort convertible, BMW e30 318i, Rover 220gsi turbo, Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000, MK4 Golf GTi 1.8 20v turbo, BMW 330d M Sport Touring, MK5 Golf GTi, Audi A4 3.0tdi v6, MK6 Golf R 3dr, and now, currently this BMW E92 M3.

The E92 M3 competition is quite a rare spec in Frozen Grey, which is only 1 of 20 in the UK and only 209 worldwide. The options fitted from the factory give me virtually everything except the rear blind, which I may retrofit at some point. I'm pretty sure the car has had a Gearbox GTS Tune and speed limiter removal, but other than that, it’s a standard vehicle. Although, I have fitted wheel spacers to fill the arches and LED Angel Eye bulbs to brighten the front end.

Unfortunately, these engines suffer from con rod bearing failures so it's booked in at Redish Motorsport in Bristol soon for replacement bearings to be fitted, then performance mods are on the horizon.

As mentioned above, my first car was my grandad’s Austin Allegro and the only mods were to remove the fake fur seat covers it was rocking when I got it!

I'd like to get to more shows and events in the future, obviously, this year has been a disaster! In the past, I have enjoyed Castle Combe/Forge Action Days and the German Performance Day with the guys from V-Hub in Tewkesbury and local hill climb events at Shelsley Walsh and the now-closed chateau impney. Back in the day, I loved the crazy Max Power Shows, Fast Car, TRAX and Performance Car Show at the NEC too.
