1994 Bagged Acura Legend Sedan - Rob Pia

I believe this car is unique because, being a Legend, it's not a platform you often see modified. It's evolved from a simple restomod to an all-out show car.

My name is Rob, I reside in sunny southern California. I'm a graphic designer working in the tire industry. I am very active in the car scene and love to support local events and network with fellow automotive enthusiasts.

My (late) father and one of my uncles used to tinker with cars back in the day. My uncle would restore old cars at home, and that sparked my interest. When I started modifying cars after high school, I would frequent import car shows. I tried joining crews back then but was pretty undisciplined and never committed to a crew. I was young then and still not fully into it. I ended up moving overseas for some years and focused on other things. When I came back to the US in 2010, I wanted to give cars another chance and chase after my first love, the Legend!

My parents used to have one back in the day that ended up in my hands. Originally my mom drove the car but we ended up swapping. A Camry for a Legend! Pretty fancy car for a young man to drive back then, and I totally ruined it (at least by today's standards). We did have to get pretty creative in those days because it was so difficult to acquire parts. Being a broke college student then, I worked at shops in exchange for services. We made use of what was available at the time, which frankly wasn't much for the Legend. I remember grafting some Honda Accord kit to the stock bumpers to make something work.

Fast forward to 2016, I really began searching for another Legend. I was trying to find a manual, but I gave up and started looking for clean examples. I found this one off Craigslist and initially passed on it. The seller was trying to get rid of his aunt's car, since she was already too old to drive, but was out of my budget. I remember him telling me "you won't find a nicer one". For that time when I was looking, he was right. I looked at a dozen or so and ended up trying to find his old listing. It was removed. Damn! I was lucky I still had our old text conversation and asked if we could meet in the middle. He agreed and the rest was history.

It feels awesome to drive this car again. I felt reconnected with this beautiful and timeless piece of art after so many years. You don't really see many of these on the road anymore, so it turns a lot of heads and gets love almost every time I take it out.

I believe this car is unique because, being a Legend, it's not a platform you often see modified. It's evolved from a simple restomod to an all-out show car. Last year my Legend brothers in Japan helped me acquire a body kit which I had only dreamed of owning, a rare and authentic kit from Admiration. I actually passed on this as I wasn't planning to go that route; even suggested they offer it to the Legend groups online. After several months of no one pulling the trigger, I felt that I had to save this kit. It was meant to be. There are only 2 other known owners with authentic Admiration kits stateside, with mine being the only one installed and painted on a Legend. I do hope if they're reading this, that it'll encourage them to finish their projects.

Many folks were involved in turning my vision into reality, so I hope I didn't miss anyone. First off, I want to give credit to the Legend community for helping me acquire the parts needed for this journey. Original body repairs by PJ Bonifacio and paints on body kit by the crew at Kaiser Kars. Engine bay work by Hybrid Pit with metal polishing by JD Polishing and chrome plating by Decore. Ccraft Customs for some Honda rare parts finessing. Stitchman Customs for reupholstering a couple of pieces. Ben at Sensei6 for wheel rebuild. The crew at AT230 for Airrunner suspension install. My neighbour Eric is on sounds! I owe a lot of credit to Sean D. at Bandit Motorworkz for handling a majority of projects on this car. The rest of the little details by yours truly.

Future Plans:

Currently adding some subtle touches from the motherland. My recent trip to the Philippines sparked my idea of adding touches to this build. I want to proudly represent my roots. Another trip to the paint booth to address/repair some things, I really want to take it to the next level.

I am looking to dress up the brakes and add a touch of gold to them. Lastly, a throwback-style trunk setup to tie everything together with some classic subwoofers and amps to complete the look.

Advice/Tips

Slow and steady wins the race. Take your time and do it right. Finding parts, especially on a rare car can be a challenge, yes; but patience and consistency are key. Build your network and relationships.  Help others out in the community and share ideas.
