My name is Matthew but most people just call me Matt. I’m 20 years old and I’m from Lugoff South Carolina and drive a 2019 Honda Civic Type R. 

I’ve grown up around cars my entire life I remember being probably 4 or 5 years old going in the garage and sitting in the driver's seat of my dad's 57 chevy bell air and pretending to drive it. My dad later traded that car for a 2003 terminator mustang and that’s what really started my addiction to cars. I ended up getting an iPad in middle school and started watching TJ Hunt on YouTube and him building his BRZ and I knew I had to get a sports car of some sort. 

This car fell in my lap I guess you could say. It was never a dream car or really a car I ever wanted. I had a 2018 brz and totaled it in a wreck. I was looking around for a new car and stumbled upon this car on the marketplace and started researching about them and realized how cool the type r really is. I went and test-drove it and knew I had to buy it. What really made me choose this car and its color is the heritage and knowing that automakers won’t make very many cars this raw anymore. I wanted to have the experience of having such a good driver's car and seeing what all the hype was about.

It feels good to own this car. It’s a big accomplishment for me to own it at 20 years old and almost have it paid in full already. It’s led to me meeting a lot of cool people. I’ve also learned a lot about Honda's heritage by owning this car. If I was asked what makes my car stand out I would have to say I think all the authentic parts and styling from what I’ve added help make it unique.

Who did the work?

I’ve done most of the work to the car along with some help from good friends and mechanics. 

Future Plans:

My future plans are buying some coil overs, getting my flex fuel kit installed and a chassis-mounted front splitter installed. 

Advice/Tips

My advice would be to never give up on your goals. I never thought any of the things I have would be possible at my age but with hard work, you can do whatever you want. Following your dreams is very important and possible with dedication and patience.

What do you get from the car scene?

I get a lot of enjoyment from the car scene. I’ve met a lot of great people and learned a lot from the car scene. Cars are a big part of my life.

My dream car is a gt350 and a Porsche gt4
