1997 Nissan Infiniti Q45 2jz swap

With that came, the Q45 build started off as a joke between the guys at hero garage when we did an event and I complained about how much slower it was than the Subaru when someone jokingly said just 2jz swap it we all laughed about it and moved on.

Here is my 1997 infinity Q45 we bought this car in Houston after a flood for $500 I originally bought it to be a cruiser vip ish Daily so I would stop driving the previous car I built which was a 2013 Subaru STI with a varis kit love that car but unfortunately had to get rid of it shortly after COVID hit. with all the new rules coming into place and all the scares we got let go from the job I had been working for over 10 years at. So that left a big hole of time being at home with nothing to do going home crazy.

With that came, the Q45 build started off as a joke between the guys at hero garage when we did an event and I complained about how much slower it was than the Subaru when someone jokingly said just 2jz swap it we all laughed about it and moved on. Till I got home thought about it maybe I could and I always wanted a rear-wheel drive car to drive this would give me that opportunity to do so.

So I chose the 2jz to do it we had an old 2jz ge vvti motor sitting there in a corner no one was planning on using I knew the 2jz motor was well known for its reliability and capability of making great power. so next day went to the shop early in the morning like I was going to work and started ripping out the vh41de motor and transmission that came with these cars pulled a lot of unnecessary parts took a picture and sent it to the group chat and told the guys we fucked up cause it's going to happen now.

I started with the building mocking up the engine to the chassis which was pretty fun used stock 2jz engine mounts that bolt to the block and used the lower half of an S13 swap mounts to get it sitting in the car didn't fit the best but worked enough to keep moving forward till I got some legit engine mounts. Sent the motor and head to get reworked, and assembled the engine myself.

Once I got that done all the fun parts started coming in bought a turbo manifold just to modify it for the dual wastegate. took a manifold we had laying there and had it welded to the OEM runners got a Borg Warner s366 turbo for a steal from a buddy of mine so in all reality I built this with what I could get my hands on some second-hand parts alot of new part basically what I could afford as a construction worker but making sure everything I have gotten was quality that's why it took 2 years to build so it is possible to build a car just working blue-collar work.

There were some parts I did not need but I really wanted and I felt like I deserve them for myself for all the hard work. the status racing seat was one of my favourite purchases I saw they had tweed as an option for material and I had to do it I previously had a status racing seat in my Subaru so I know they were comfortable an great quality seats.

The other purchase was the power tune digital dash fact that I can make a custom dash layout and watch it change as I go up in rpms.was amazing to see and it was compatible with the Ecu master standalone I had to have it then I sat at my computer for an hour or 2 every day for a few weeks to figure out how to make it a fun experience and ended up with Anya dash.

Over the course of 2 years I learned a lot from this one I'm the 2nd person to have done a 2jz in a Q45 2 this thing was never meant to do what we did there was almost no aftermarket support to make a lot of these parts work with this car other than suspension components from an S14 so a lot has to be fabricated and a whole lot of trial and error but overall this has been a great learning experience and made a lot of new connections in the automotive industry that I'd like to keep growing on
