2002 Nissan 200SX S15: Sleek Design and Powerful Performance

I’m 23 years old and from Sydney Australia. I’m currently still an electrical apprentice, just about to move into my last year of the apprenticeship. Love to go on drives with the boys and work on cars with my dad. My dad who has been a panel beater/spray painter his whole life is the one who played a massive part in getting me into cars. Growing up I was always around Old Aussie Muscle cars, pretty much anything v8 but mainly Ford XY/XW GTs

When I was 17 (back in 2018) a few of my mates had s-chassis cars (s14 and s15) and I loved them just for the turbo noises and because they looked cool. Besides that, I had no idea what they were. So I then went on to buy one to make cool turbo noises with them.

After getting the car and starting to understand more about them, I actually appreciated them more than just hearing the dose. I started to learn about the mechanic parts of the car with help from mates and YouTube. After that it was no longer just a random nice turbo car, it was my pride and joy. After about 2 years of owning it, I slowly started to buy engine parts.

Every pay I’d buy something new. It was no better time than to start a father-son project and give this car a full transformation. We then decided to change the look of the car and give it a fresh respray in a completely different colour, and while the motor was removed due to painting the engine bay, it was time to rebuild the motor as well which was completed by my cousin.

Unfortunately, my dad was involved in a major car accident and the car sat in the driveway stripped in pieces for more than a year, as my dad's health is more important than a car. Once my dad was ready and started to get back on his feet, we then begin the transformation again. Now seeing the car finished and the smile on my dad's face every time we take it to a show or take it for a drive, is worth it all

It feels pretty insane knowing that I bought this car because it was “cool” and now actually appreciating what it actually is. In the generations coming this car is every kid's dream. I’ve watched Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift about 50 times now and I never realized my car was actually in that movie until I started getting more and more into jap cars. This car honestly puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

If I had to pick one thing that makes the car stand out, it has to be the colour. Couldn’t have picked a better colour to paint the car than House of Kolor “Kandy Apple Red”

The Work

My Dad did all the panel work and respray and my cousin did all the engine/mechanical work

Future Plans:

For now, my future plans are to put the car on an e85, take it to roll racing and the drags, take it to more shows and try to win some more trophies, try to get on the cover of a magazine and lastly, just to drive it and enjoy it with family and friends

Advice/Tips

My biggest advice is to save up and buy the best parts you possibly can, as there is a saying “the poor man pays twice”. Don’t half-do things, and when you do the right things, don’t cheap out as you want your car to be as reliable as you can. Time shouldn’t be a factor when building a car, good things take time

Shout Outs:

Shout out to everyone involved in getting the car done:

  • Massive shoutout to my dad, John Doulkeridis - Panel beater/Spray painter
  • Jason Doulkeridis (Cousin) - Engine/Mechanical
  • Whiteys Wiring - Wiring
  • AEA Auto and Marine trimming - Custom trimming
  • Heasmans - Wheel Alignment
  • Paras Prestige Detailing - Detailer
  • And many more!

The scene

I get to hang out with my mates and enjoy our cars together and also go with my family to car shows. Nothing is better than spending time with the people I love, and also doing it with the car being there with us

Dream Car:

My dream car is either a Rolls Royce Phantom or a McLaren 720s but I’ll need some savings for one of those
