2016 Ford Mustang GT California Special - Omar Martinez

I have a lot in store for the Mustang. In the foreseeable future, I see myself adding a new hood, airbags, a nice spoiler, some side skirts, a cold air intake, headers, quad tips for the rear, rear bumper, and a new reverse light as well.

I was born in San Salvador, El Salvador. I came to the US when I was 4 with my mother. We moved to Dallas, Tx where we had lots of families. My mom met my step dad who I respect and cherish a lot. He has done so much for me and he helped me get my American residency allowing me to be eligible to join the United States military. I joined the Navy shortly after high school. I was sent to boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois where I learned discipline, honour and commitment.

After graduating from boot camp I got orders to a Destroyer stationed out in Japan. I lived and worked in Japan for about 2 and a half years exploring and discovering so many foods and sights and experiencing things I could never imagine. As well as going out to sea to execute Naval operations in the Pacific Ocean. Our home port shifted here to San Diego, California where I fell more in love with cars and began being part of the car scene.

I met my beautiful and lovely girlfriend here in San Diego and I can’t put in words how blessed I am to have met her. We love to go watch movies, our favourite genre is horror movies. We enjoy going out to eat and trying new foods. I also love bikes, I own a Yamaha R3 which I’m thankful for. I love playing video games as well my favourite game right now would have to be Call of Duty. I love listening to music, rock and hip hop or rap would have to be my favourite genres right now.

What encouraged me to get into cars and the car scene was the 2006 Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift movie although that was just the spark. When I really started to get serious about it was when I bought my first car and this car was actually in the movie. It was a Nissan 350z that submerged me into this lifestyle. I still have it to this day. I chose this car because back in 2016 I test drove a Mustang as well as a Camaro. But the Mustang won me over and I could not get it at that moment. So I promised myself that one day I would own my first Mustang and I achieved that goal and kept that promise to myself.

If you enjoyed this car story why not read this ONE HERE

So I began customizing my car because I wanted to increase my performance and also transform my car from an ordinary Mustang to a unique and special and sick-looking Mustang. I wanted to make it my own and discover a new hobby. Yes, it does get expensive but the more and more parts I would buy for my car the more happiness and feeling of accomplishment and pride I would experience. And every time I park I can’t help but look back at my car and just say “Damn, that’s a beautiful car”.

I can definitely say owning this car is surreal, sometimes I catch myself really having to think about me being inside and behind the wheel of such an iconic car that has been around for so years and is so famous and well known. Hearing the engine roar is music to my ears and I get chills sometimes. Really puts a smile on my face. I get a sense of pride and accomplishment in myself and knowing that dreams do come true you just have to chase after them. I truly believe that the fact that my Mustang is a California Special already makes it unique. Also, my bucket seats and wrap are really the car mods that make my Mustang unique.

Future Plans

I have a lot in store for the Mustang. In the foreseeable future, I see myself adding a new hood, airbags, a nice spoiler, some side skirts, a cold air intake, headers, quad tips for the rear, rear bumper, and a new reverse light as well.

Advice/Tips

One piece of advice I would give is to not listen to people that are hating on your build. At the end of the day, it’s your car, not theirs. A tip I would give is to sell any old parts that you have or are thinking about replacing that way you have funds for those new parts and don’t have to break the bank. Look for sites and apps such as Offer Up or Craig’s List or even ask your buddies to help you find parts you desire for a reasonable price.

Another piece of advice I would give is to remain humble. Yes, it is clear that you have a nice car, but don’t let it get to your head and act like a jerk towards people making them feel bad about their car or even themselves. Be humble and you will be respected. You give what you get.

Groups - Club

I am currently a member of a Mustang Club called SD Stangs (@sdstangs) our President is named Eddie a great person as well as everyone in the club.

Friendships are probably the biggest and best thing I get out of the car scene. Meeting and getting to know people with the same passion is pretty great everyone or at least most of the people are pretty awesome and good people. I would have to say connections as well, it’s always good to know people who you can help and get help from. I one day plan to own and run my own car wrap shop and getting myself out there would be really great for me and my clientele.

Looking for a new club? Have a look at the ones featured on our site HERE

Also getting to see cars that you don’t normally see every day and getting to know the drivers and sharing stories about our cars and sharing our mods and just learning from each other and having a great time. There are always vendors at meets so you can support local businesses like food trucks and any business that contributes to modifying cars such as detail shops, body shops, performance shops etc.

Dream Car

I have a whole list but I would have to say that my dream car would have to be a 2022 Aston Martin Vantage.
