Allan David McAreavey - 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo

Original paint work was faded from poor paint job and required a lot of polishing and buffing… Sadly the car lasted 2 weeks on the road before I crashed it into a ford ranger.

Hi,

I am Allan David McAreavey, I am 29 years old, I currently work in the Royal Air Force as an ICT Technician, I have been in the armed forces since August 2009. I have a 7-year-old daughter. I have Instagram and Facebook which has all my progress and random things.

Instagram: @Uk_Veloster

What got me into the car scene? Well while I was growing up, I have always been interested in cars, I have played many video games from need for speed underground to recent VR driving simulators (which I currently own too). My very first car was a Hyundai Accent 1.3L R reg. This was red in colour and needed a lot of work to be done. Original paint work was faded from poor paint job and required a lot of polishing and buffing… Sadly the car lasted 2 weeks on the road before I crashed it into a ford ranger.

My current car is a 2013 Hyundai Veloster turbo. I bought this in…2013, brand new with 500 test miles on the engine. I didn’t start modifying the car until 2014 when I had a custom back box fitted on the car. From here, it all went a little crazy. In 2017 I had the wide body kit installed and the body work re painted in a Matte gun metal grey with a clear coat over the top. In 2018 the car was in an accident and the front end was smashed to pieces. It took me the best part of 6 months to collect all the new parts, repaint and fit onto the car but… along came the huge carbon spoiler. Time passed by and things looked great, until Sept 2019 after my tour in the Falklands. I came home and took the car out to a local meet, upon leaving the meet… Rodney made an appearance from underneath my car… Pistons one and Three went through the floor. On the 17th January 2020, I lost my close friend Cameron Hill and fellow admin/creator of the Hyundai Veloster Owners Group UK. His family asked me to lead the funeral hearse with my car, the race was on to rebuild my engine and get it running. Challenge completed! I made it to his funeral and made sure he was sent off in style.

Almost 90% of the work on this car I have done myself. The only thing that wasn’t completed by me was the body work and paint job, due to not having any experience with painting cars. If I could give any tips to others modifying cars, it would be to take your time and do things correctly first time. I’ve spent plenty of nights sat there, looking at my car and thinking…why did I buy a Hyundai. But the outcome is what you make of it. If you put your mind to something, anything can be completed. I’ve learnt this over the past 7 years ive been working on this car. Make sure its to your own taste, not to please others.

I’m not fully involved with clubs, I do follow a couple on Facebook, but they are only local ones. I do however have a good friendship with the owner and founder of ExtremeBHP, Sonia Davis. Although we had a moment where we didn’t see eye to eye, she’s always been there for me when people doubted my Hyundai. When I have the time, ill attend car shows, I tend to stick to the big shows like Ultimate Street Car.

I have been spotted on both YouTube videos from 2018 and 2019 (my claim to fame). I did enter the car show at USC but sadly I did not win. But I did get a lot of attention in 2019 with my wide body, big spoiler and my mascots toothless and his girlfriend. I could not thank my friends and family enough for all the help they have provided me. My Facebook group page (Hyundai veloster owners group UK) my family and my close friends Adam Baxendale and Josh Hatch. My friend and owner of Wax and Away Manchester (James Donnelly) has been there with all the amazing cleaning products for the car to keep it shining, even after miles of fun. My dream car would be a Dodge viper SRT 10. I have always loved the car since I was a little boy. I have sat in one at a Dubai auto show in 2016. This made me want one even more.
