Nissan 240SX S14 Silvia - Wayne Raqueno

When you have hosted car shows for a good portion of your life, you must have a totally modified car, right? I mean, would you trust a Restaurant if they didn’t have any cooks who went out of their way to learn how to make good food? Would you call the plumber to come out and fix your roof leak? Those were some of the thoughts of Wayne Raqueno with his Nissan 240SX S14 Silvia. He had to have a car that showcased his car events and let everyone know he is Tuned Originals.
When he first started getting the ideas to put this car together, he came across a Nissan 240sx shell that needed to get painted and was totally stripped. Most people would see this as the most difficult way to start a project, but not Wayne. He knew this was going to be the best way to add everything that he wanted to his liking. First off, he picked up a Version Select full-body kit and made sure that it was going to be a perfect fit with Jose from J&M Paint and Body in Dallas, Texas.
Making the car a little wider than stock, Jose flared the fenders out to make sure some thick tires would fit in the back. They were looking at paint colours and seeing as Jose had painted a lot of exotics including Lamborghinis, Wayne opted for the Murcielago’s Verde Ithaca Pearl Green Metallic with extra gold pearl. Since the car was a shell, he still had to get headlights and taillights. He opted for D Max taillights and glass replacement headlights. Jose tells us he knew the car was very important for Wayne to showcase events, so he made sure the car was painted to perfection. He adds, “there were some small things with the paint that I wasn’t happy with, so we stripped the car and repainted it to make sure it was PERFECT!”
Next up was the performance aspect. In the USA, these cars came in stock with a KA24DE truck motor that didn’t put out too much power. Other places in the world were blessed with the turbo-charged SR20DET, so Wayne went out of his way to locate the perfect motor from David at JDM Engines Corp. David was contacted a few times until the perfect motor was found. One of Wayne’s best friends, German Sanchez, was called upon to get the motor in perfect condition and installed at GS Motorsports in Irving, TX.
German suggested beefing the motor up and making more power, so a GT2871R turbo was added as well as 1200cc injectors fed by an Aeromotive Stealth 340 fuel pump. Mike from Nonstop Tuning, known for their incredible pulley setups, sent one of his kits for the SR as well. This helped push the s14 to the tune of 400 whp. On a car like this, that’s plenty of great useable power! One other amazing performance part Wayne was quick to point out is the Carbon Fiber prototype exhaust from John at Top Speed Pro1. Absolutely incredible looking exhaust and sound!!
Inside the car, Wayne opted for Sparco Racing seats as they were some of his favourite seats to see in all of the performance cars frequenting the car shows. Sony Electronics provided a head unit and Fusion Electronics based out of New Zealand provided speakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers, to make sure the audio would bring even more of a splash.
To bring an extra bit of excitement to the interior, Wayne dropped the car off with Rick at Rick’s Detailing and Fabrication in Corpus Christi, TX, to get the interior done in carbon fibre material. On the dash resides a catalogue of Autometer NV Gauges lighting up green to match the exterior. From the flashy exterior to the ultimate interior, Wayne was starting to get the feeling his project was going to be a success!
With friends throughout the automotive aftermarket industry, Wayne opted to contact Mike from Ferrada Wheels to showcase his new wheels. With 19x9.5 in the front and 19x10.5 in the back, this car’s stance looks perfect! With fitment for wider cars, it was a good thing, Jose from J&M Paint and Body flared those fenders out! For meets, Stan from Toyo Tires was able to make sure the car had an aggressive set of tires able to grab the road when needed and look amazing all at the same time. To stop the car, Wayne opted for a Brembo Big Brake Kit. This helps fill the wheel up and keep things from moving too fast! Jose says he took the brakes before they were installed, and colour-matched them to the car to some colour to the brakes.
For suspension parts, Nick from Ksport was called upon for their Kontrol Pro coil overs and they also sent their amazing track-proven Voodoo 13 suspension parts as well. When the car is taken to shows, the wheels are taken off and mirrors are placed under the car to feature all of those Voodoo 13 pieces.
To showcase all of the sponsors of the car and make it truly one of a kind, Rusty Goding was called upon by IDS Wraps & Signs. He came up with some amazing ideas to make sure the car stuck out in a crowd. He took the car two days before the car was shot and came out with this amazing set-up.
Wayne adds, “To make sure you have a truly clean set-up, you have to have the support of amazing cleaning products, so thank you so much to Danielle and Amy from Meguiar’s!” As you can see, this is definitely one Tuned Original 240sx!
