The Early Influences

Hello, I’m John Saunders, the proud owner of a unique BMW E36 316i Compact. Growing up in my dad’s home garage, I was always around drills, grinders, welding sets, and lathes. With my dad showing me the intricacies of engines and mechanics, it’s no surprise that 30+ years later, I’m still at it, but now, I get paid for it.

The Journey Begins

The Inspiration Behind the Build

In mid-2006, I began my build while working at a company adjacent to CCM Body Kits. I got to know the team and eventually bought a full kit meant for a Citroën Saxo. The challenge was figuring out how to fit it onto my BMW. This involved cutting and modifying the bumpers and side skirts to ensure everything fit perfectly.

The Build Process

The journey was arduous, with countless hours spent on adjustments. The front and rear bumpers had three inches removed from their height, side skirts were extended, and all four arches were cut and modified. Despite the difficulties, the result was worth the effort: a one-of-a-kind creation.

Craftsmanship and Innovation

This car stands out due to its unique bodywork and the skills I learned along the way. The entire process was a massive learning curve, and the satisfaction of seeing the final product is unmatched.

Driving Experience

Driving the car is slow, but it's reliable. With the extensive audio setup inside, it’s not built for speed. Each trip is an adventure, especially with the constant concern about battery life due to the audio system. Yet, the thrill of driving such a mad creation makes every journey worthwhile.

• Engine: Standard 1.6i with an induction cone

• Audio System:

• 6 x 12" subs

• 5 amps

• 5 line drivers

• 4 x 5" door speakers

• 2 x 4" rear speakers

• 1 yellow top battery

• 5 LED amp voltage displays

• Original Kenwood KVT 725 flip-out DVD screen

• TV screens in sun visors

• Wheels: 18" AC Schnitzer wheels with tire wall stickers

• Suspension: 40mm lowering springs

• Brakes: Front disc rotors from POTN.com

• Exhaust: 2 oval Cobra exhausts

The Work

I did all the work myself, except for the final skim of filler and the paint job, which was expertly handled by Barry B.

Future Plans

More modifications are planned, but I’m keeping those details under wraps to maintain the element of surprise.

Dream Car
