1993 Rocket Bunny Mazda RX-7 R1 - Shan Wooldridge

I crashed that after installing a Z32 brake kit because I locked up my brakes in wet conditions and went straight on into a tree. I sold the 240sx and bought a Z32 TT which was a great car but just broke down on me too much, so I sold the Z32 and bought a Datsun 240Z with a 327ci small block Chevy and flared fenders

1993 Rocket Bunny Mazda RX-7 R1 - Sema Built

Performance Stats: 12.8 in ¼ mile

I’m Shan the man, I’ve always been into cars since I got my first Hotwheels at 3 thanks mostly to my Grandad. As I got older my passion for cars especially the JDM ones grew.

Once the first F&F came out I like so many others was obsessed with the big hitters of the JDM world but couldn’t afford any of them. I got a job at Taco Bell during high school and was able to save up enough money to buy a 1989 240sx with an SR20det, Silvia front end, and Kouki tail lights.

I crashed that after installing a Z32 brake kit because I locked up my brakes in wet conditions and went straight on into a tree. I sold the 240sx and bought a Z32 TT which was a great car but just broke down on me too much, so I sold the Z32 and bought a Datsun 240Z with a 327ci small block Chevy and flared fenders.

That car was a hoot but the gas mileage it got vs my taco hell my salary wasn’t having so I sold it and bought an AE86. The AE86 taught me so much about how to be a better driver. All my cars had too much power but here’s a car that had just enough to where I couldn’t crash it and the gas mileage was perfect.

By this time high school was over and I needed to make serious money, so I was sitting in my 86 thinking of how to make more money but it had to be something I loved doing. I saw a tow truck go by and the bulb went on in my head. I bought a tow truck and started my own business. I finally made the money I needed to buy my dream car! I had the 86 for years until I finally got a chance to buy this RX-7 thru a friend who had helped build it for SEMA.

I towed the car a couple of times from shop to shop while it was being prepped for SEMA and thought “One day I’ll own this 7” The RX-7 is a true car guys car, the balance is great, power is amazing (once you’ve upgraded a few things of course) and it still looks good to this day! I’ve always kept having an RX-7 as a goal in my mindset and many years later, after lots of hard work, I finally have one. Just goes to show you can go from slinging chalupas in high school to owning a Queen in the JDM world as long as you keep your mindset right.

My car is a Legend in the JDM scene and stock sucks, modifying the car to my vision was my dream, so I set about to make this come true. It feels like I’m driving a motorcycle with the 13B-TT power band and its power-to-weight ratio.

Everywhere I go it turns heads, when I’m at shows or just parked up people are always taking photos or asking questions, and I am more than willing to oblige, with any knowledge I can share, inspiring the next generation just makes me happy. This car is very unique because its  Enkei’s promo SEMA car in 2014, so yeah there truly is only one of these.

Advice/Tips

Keep one goal and work hard for it, if you have a dream or a vision of your build then do it, don’t think or attempt to build your car for other people, you just won’t be happy with it, because it's not truly your build. Don’t give up, all the pitfalls and highs are worth every minute for the end goal, and you’ll get it eventually.
