2013 Subaru BRZ  - Gabriella Marin

The Subaru BRZ is a car I never thought I’d own. Prior to owning my BRZ, I was in a Hemi SRT8 challenger, which is the total opposite of JDM vehicles, but less than twenty-four hours of my owning the challenger I was t-boned and the car was totalled out, unfortunately.

I live in Dallas, Texas and am 23. I spend my weekends enjoying local car meets and also travelling for shows! I spend weeks working full time at my parent’s dealership detailing cars. I also have started wrapping cars which I hope to pursue full time in the future.

Ever since I was around the age of 12 I was always around cars because of my older brother, we used to live in Wichita Falls TX which isn’t a very big town. The weekend would consist of us meeting at our local sonic and making our own little meet out of it, I enjoyed every aspect of it admiring all the cars while being a passenger. I didn’t know much about the cars but I knew I wanted to be involved in any way possible. Being the younger sibling and getting exposed to a lifestyle I never imagined opened my doors to so many possibilities.

My parents are in the automotive business and run their own dealership my stepdad happened to run into the brz rolling through an auction in Dallas Tx which we saw. I then got a phone call from him saying I was now an owner of a Subaru, which was something I didn’t think was possible.

Customizing your own vehicle is quite the experience. Normally people will get their car stock with no modifications being done yet, but that wasn’t my case. Once I got my hands on my new car it already came wide-bodied with a bunch of other modifications. Being a new car enthusiast in our community I knew I would get backlash for owning a prebuilt car, but that didn’t stop me from showing others you can put your own twist on a pre-modded vehicle. I customized my car for myself to show that you can add your own mods to a pre-modded vehicle.

Being an owner of a BRZ it’s overwhelming how great the community is about tips and appreciating other’s cars. There is also a crazy amount of parts for this platform such as widebody kits, interior modifications etc. One thing that I think makes the car unique is the widebody kit. The kit is from Aimgain which is a company from Japan. Where I live, I was one of one my platforms which made my car stand out in the community and caught people’s attention.

Advice/Tips

The advice I would give new people wanting to get into modifying their own vehicles is don’t let negative opinions change their minds. Make the car your personality, the car should show who you are as a person.

The Specs of my car as of now, my car has the Aimgain widebody kit. Currently, there are no mods to the boxer engine but I am running the Jackson Racing supercharger kit with a flex-fuel kit with E85. The car is tuned by PRT Performance pushing 260hp to the wheel. The engine bay dresses up I am running the Kevlar jdm password engine bay cover.

My seats in the interior are Braum Racing Advan series black cloth, also with their harness bar and harnesses. I have the rear seat deleted from Shrader performance, also with my supercharger kit, I am running a pod pillar for all gauges. For exhaust, I am running a full Tomei exhaust with jdl headers. For suspension wise, I am running Airlift 3p which, in my opinion, is the best option for air suspension. I’m running Work Meister's two-piece with polished lips.

It's always good having helpers, which is one thing I am grateful for. All my close car enthusiasts friends always lend a helping hand for anything I need help with for my car. There are so many great people I could name that have stayed up late helping me get my car prepped for anything.

Future Plans:

My future plans for my car are a 360. Recently I have wrapped my car twice in two colours from tekwrap. This time around I’m redoing the entire car. I have purchased the full Robot widebody kit which I also plan on moulding to the car, then it will be getting a full paint job. I purchased a new set of Braum seats. I plan on running full chrome tint all around my car and will be re-doing my trunk set up as well.

Groups/Clubs

Groups in the car scene are endless! When I first owned the BRZ I was on a team called Nemesis, they were an amazing group of people who welcomed me in as a family. We would gather and travel to car shows and make so many great memories. I then, later on, met a group named ABGhunters. They were very welcoming and I made so many close friendships being able to travel to shows and hang out at local meets, we were such a big family. You never have to want to be in a group or team but it’s always good to know your local groups and what they strive to become!

There is a lot to obtain from the car scene it’s endless. One of my favourite things is getting to know others and hearing the stories of how they got into the car scene and appreciate their builds as well.

Dream Car

As a kid, we all have a favourite thing we want when we are older. Ever since I can remember I wanted a Nissan 350, as I was getting older, I grew to learn more about the background of Nissan and the GTR. When I started going to car meets, I fell more in love with the GTRs and just how aggressive they got. Every time I see one, I feel like a kid at a candy store. Unbelievably my mechanic at work had a GTR on his lot and he knew that it is my dream car and let me take it down the road. You know when you get into a car, and you feel nervous and scared because it’s a car with lots of power. When I got to take it down the road, I didn’t feel the slightest bit scared it just felt right, and that’s how I know I’ll strive to own in the future.

If you can dream it, you can achieve it.
