My Story and the Lowriding Lifestyle

My name’s Angel, and I’m a 40-year-old flatbed truck driver from Apple Valley, CA, saving the world one load at a time. I’m also the president and founder of OL SKOOL WAYZ CAR CLUB, which I started 17 years ago. My pronouns are him/homie/Ese.

I’ve been into the car and truck scene since I was a kid. My dad had mini trucks and used to take us to truck runs and car shows. It was just part of life growing up. When I got older, I knew I wanted a car of my own. I was into lowriders from the start—I mean, I was the only one in my high school parking lot with a 1978 Nova slammed on 13s!

Why I Built the Kingswood Wagon

I chose the 1969 Kingswood Wagon because I wanted to stand out. It’s a rare car, and not many people are building these, so I knew it’d be a challenge. But that’s the point.

I’ve built plenty of cars and trucks before this one, and I’m still working on a few more: a 1968 Impala convertible, a 1979 Cutlass, and a 2003 S10 for my daughter. I guess you could say it’s in my blood. Even when I took my driver’s test, I had to use a Toyota Tercel because my lowrider wasn’t exactly DMV-approved!

When I’m out cruising, it just feels right—it’s my happy place. It’s cool when people admire my ride, ask questions, or just want to know more about it. I don’t build cars to impress people; I do it because I love lowriding. It’s not a hobby for me—it’s a lifestyle, something I’ve been living my whole life.

What Makes “Nasty Habits” Unique

This car is unique because you don’t see a lot of Kingswood Wagons in the lowrider scene. Plus, all the modifications I’ve done to it make it truly one of a kind.

Modifications List

  • Exterior: Shaved door handles, shaved firewall, and a custom old-school rag top. The car also has a full custom paint job with detailed patterns done by Pete at Krazy Customs in Palmdale. Engraved chrome accessories give it that extra touch.

  • Interior: Custom center console, 1965 Impala SS bucket seats, and a Jensen double-din stereo system with two 12-inch Cerwin Vega subwoofers.

  • Engine: 383 stroker engine.

  • Suspension: Two-pump hydraulic system powered by four batteries.

  • Wheels and Tires: Custom 72-spoke, diamond-cut 13-inch rims with purple accents, built by The Hookup Wire Wheels. Tires are 155/80R13s.

Building the Wagon

My dad helped me out with motorwork and other small stuff, and a friend from Apple Valley did the interior. The paint job was done by Perfection Autobody in San Bernardino, and Pete from Krazy Customs handled all the pattern work.

Every car I’ve built has been a headache—it’s hard to find good people or shops to do quality work without wasting your time and money. That’s why I tell anyone starting a build: good luck. You’re gonna need it!

But at the end of the day, this car did exactly what I wanted it to do. For the past three years, it’s taken first-place trophies at all the biggest shows. I’m done with it now—I just have to keep it maintained. It’s time to finish my other builds and see what they can do.

What Lowriding Means to Me

Lowriding has introduced me to so many people who’ve become like family. From local shows to traveling for events, I’ve earned a lot of respect in the scene. It feels good to walk around with a solid name, knowing I’ve done things the right way.

When you’re building a car, do it for yourself. Don’t worry about what other people think. Trust me, someone’s always gonna hate on you no matter what. Just stay true to yourself and the game.

My Dream Cars

If I had to pick my dream cars, they’d be a 1961 Bubble Top and a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. Maybe one day, I’ll get to build those too. Big shoutout to my club, OL SKOOL WAYZ CAR CLUB, for 17 years of strong vibes, hard work, and family.
