A Passion for Cars and a Childhood Dream

Introduction

My name is Ben, I'm 24, and I'm from the West Midlands. I've been a petrolhead all my life, although I only got my driving license last year due to a severe car accident that left me with a fractured skull. After a long recovery and medical clearance, I finally achieved my dream of owning my childhood dream car: a 1982 VW Mk1 Golf C.

Early Inspiration

Growing up, I was heavily influenced by my Grandad's old Max Power magazines. Once I'd read them all, I turned to YouTube for videos on custom builds, modifications, and car shows. These experiences fueled my passion for cars and the desire to work on my own.

The Unique Build of My Mk1 Golf C

Factory Specs and Initial Modifications

From the factory, the car was a Mars Red 1982 1.1L Mk1 Golf C. It has undergone two engine conversions and now runs on a 1.8L K-Jetronic fuel injection GTi engine with a five-speed Scirocco GT gearbox and a modified exhaust system.

Why It's Unique

This car stands out in the Mk1 Golf community due to its distinctive body kit and paintwork. You don't see many Mk1 Golfs on the road today, and those you do see are usually original from the factory.

Who Did the Work?

The body kit, interior, engine conversion, and suspension were all done by the previous owner. When I bought the car, it had several issues, including frequent breakdowns, faulty electricals, and blistered paint. I have since given it a full service, rebuilt the alternator, replaced the speedometer cable, fixed the electrical faults, cleaned and resprayed the interior panels, replaced the carpets, and had the bodywork refurbished and resprayed.

Future Plans

Although I've done a lot of work on the car, there's still more to do. I plan to upgrade the wheels to BBS split rims, upgrade the brakes, tidy up the engine bay with chrome parts, and install a custom-built sound system in the boot.
