Currently work as a professional DJ and Mobile Hydraulic Hose Technician, I love what I do! Total contrast to each other but both great fun!

I currently drive a ’99 Subaru Impreza turbo wagon. It's one of those cars, any kid growing up in the 90’s dreamed of having. I’ve only had it since March this year but it came about completely by chance, at the time I had a 1990 MK2 golf that I had built from a rolling shell. I spotted the subaru and the fella was looking for a swap, although the Subaru looked in a real bad way, I’m a sucker for a project car, and always up for a challenge, so we did the trade and I started going over it seeing what it needed and what I wanted to do.

First of all before I started on any bodywork I wanted to make sure it was reliable (insert head gasket joke here).. almost everything done to it had been done poorly and parts were nearing failure.. So first off the bat was a full silicone hose kit, plugs, oil, filters, and a forge motorsport header tank, coolant flush etc.. She still wasn’t boosting quite right so I replaced all vacuum hoses as they perished, added a pro-sport boost gauge, and a W-B air fuel ratio gauge to keep an eye on things.

Now it was time to start on the bodywork... The car already had some over fenders on it, and a really aggressive front splitter but they didn’t suit it and fitted really badly, so my first task was finding some arches and a lip that I liked and getting them ordered… I came across the B.A.R Design arches, JUN front 3 piece lip and Trial rear wing.. there was quite a wait on the bits so I got them ordered and set about preparing the rest of the car in time for their arrival.

With all the parts ordered I turned my attention to the front end, there was hardly any lacquer left on any of it, bumps and scratches everywhere and I hated the washer jets in the front bumper so they needed to go!.. I’ve always been ok at painting with a can but never even picked up a spray gun, so thought, this is the best time to learn, bought the bits needed and set to work, stripped the whole front end down and gave it a freshen up. By this time, the arches, spoiler and front lip arrived, so I got those sorted too and on the car.. The wheels were next on the list, they’re not really to my style but were already on the car, so I gave them a go in rays racing bronze, and they’ll do for now.

Specs List:

Body:

  • B.A.R. Design overfenders;
  • JUN front 3 piece lip;
  • TRIAL rear wing;
  • Blacked back headlights;
  • Amber corners;
  • Half tinted rear lights;and
  • Tinted yellow fogs.

  • XXR 527 painted Rays racing bronze;

And here we are, as it currently sits, there's a few bits I’ve missed out, however I’m by no means finished with the build, next up is a brake upgrade on the rears to the new-age two pot callipers, and a good set of coilovers, a coil on plug conversion, Group A exhaust, then start a fresh 2.1 stroker engine build.Watch this space, the car will always be modified more.
