Jaguar 2JZ Swapped XJ-S - 1990 Bryan Pontifes

The V12 in these cars were labelled as unreliable and living up to that the one in this car was blown. Most of all I have the best the best of both worlds remarkable bodywork by Jaguar and reliability from the 2JZ.

Performance Stats 425hp

My name is Bryan Pontifes I’m from Los Angeles, Ca. I’m currently 20 years old and have had a passion for cars ever since my father brought home an old Xj6 shell, or since I can remember. I love hanging out with my friends and enjoy making new ones whenever I go out.

I was always around cars however I really got into cars during my senior year of high school. I would watch Tj Hunts videos and thought it was so cool to work on cars let alone own something like a 2JZ Jaguar. Don’t get me wrong as time went on I started admiring all the different work and styles people would do to their cars. Attending local car meets was another factor as to what really got me excited, how everyone had a different style, feeling, and how their cars were a reflection of themselves in a way.

When I was little my father brought home an old XJ6 and that was where my love for Jaguars bloomed. The car was a bucket, it had flaking old blue paint, the tan interior was not in mint condition but reasonable, and the undercarriage was covered in spider webs. So bad my little brother and I would drown them in a bucket if they ever crawled out. Shortly after my mom sold the car and the project there died, but it then lead to me being obsessed over the Jaguar logo. Overall the Jaguar logo itself stuck with me since I loved how cool it looked and it was an animal. The body style of the XJ-S in my opinion is hands down the best one to come out and that is why it caught the eye of my father and me.

Even though I am young I do feel like an old head driving around in a Jag. Most people wouldn’t even expect me to pop out of the car. Let alone once they ask me the famous question of what’s under the hood they become even more shocked. The car drives well it has a great response with the 3-speed transmission in it(Th400). Being that the car is from the 90s and most suspension parts are hard to find the drive itself is really smooth. I can’t forget to mention it is quick for it being almost 4,000lbs! Around 2500 RPMs the 1st turbo kicks in and at 3500 RPMs we’re at full boost and it’s a good time from there on.

I would say what makes my car unique is the fact it’s a Jaguar. The V12 in these cars were labelled as unreliable and living up to that the one in this car was blown. Most of all I have the best the best of both worlds remarkable bodywork by Jaguar and reliability from the 2JZ.

Spec List,

Engine:

  • 5” intercooler,
  • Koyorad radiator,
  • Turbosmart race port wastegates,

Suspension:

The engine swap was done by Aaron over at Driftmotion. From there on it became my project to fine-tune all the little details to really make it stand out, my father and I had the car stripped down to bare metal for a complete respray, as well as making and designing a front bumper to show that 5” intercooler and might I say it does pop. At the moment I’m still working out more details to really make this car complete.

Future Plans

As of right now, I don’t have much planned for the car it is basically complete other than changing up the wheels and making a little more power. I believe under 650hp would be more than enough where I can still have the reliability to drive it as much as I would like.

Advice/Tips

Some advice my father told me is to always do what you want to do. That’s what I took into consideration with this build, now it did take a while to save up to get it to where it’s currently at but little by little it’s going to be complete. Another thing would have patience there were times when I felt rushed to get stuff done and I ended up going up and having to remember perfection takes time.

Shout Outs

I’d like to thank Driftmotion for giving me a solid platform to further my JZ venture. Summers Brothers Racing for making sure my car is always running at its peak performance. Los Desvalidos Racing for a kickass paint job. Finally my friends, parents, brother, and Marvin for all the support they’ve given me.

To me, it’s all about friendships and meeting new people. Some of my closest friends I’ve met through cars, and it’s crazy how we can bond instantly through a mere conversation over them.

Dream Car

Funny to say my dream car is a 1995 Toyota Supra. The Jaguar is more like the cool reliable JZ car but when I do get one it’ll definitely be an 800+whp machine.
