Moegsien Nordien - Bagged Nissan 350z

After a few years of collecting what he needed, about a week before he was going to do the installation on his previous car Moegsien came across the Nissan 350Z and instantly fell in love with it as it was the flagship colour that the advert came out with and knew from there that this would be a better build to do.

Moegsien Nordien - Bagged Nissan 350z

Moegsien works as a field technician for a media and research company, which collects the viewership of people all over Southern Africa. It involves a lot of driving as they cover the greater Western Cape ranging from Springbok all the way to Riversdale, so far it is a relative term these days.

There is actually a funny story about why he wasn't much of a car "boy" from a young age as most people would be, but what got Moegsien properly into liking cars was the release of Need for Speed Underground. After playing that game for the first time he was instantly hooked on all things cars and never looked back. As for the car scene, it started when his buddy (Brett with the air S3) and himself started building their sound systems for their vehicles just for fun. They ended up making good friends with Sujeet from SM Audio which turned from being customers/competitors to very good friends and helping him run his sound offs.

This particular car has always been a dream of his to own one day, so he was building up air suspension for a previous vehicle by collecting parts (tanks/bags etc) every few months as it can be pricey. After a few years of collecting what he needed, about a week before he was going to do the installation on his previous car Moegsien came across the Nissan 350Z and instantly fell in love with it as it was the flagship colour that the advert came out with and knew from there that this would be a better build to do.

Specs:

Engine:

  • Stock 3.5 V6 DE REVUP
  • Custom Intake

True Dual Exhaust (meaning instead of it being branched into Y pipe then single pipe it splits after the muffler again, it has 2 pipes, each one from the branch straights but similar to the stock exhaust but just for the grunt)

Exterior:

Nothing much changed as I was going for the OEM+ look. I just added a window tint and sprayed door handles Saturn black

Wheels/suspension/brakes:

  • Factory standard rays with Saturn black finish
  • Front tyres are 225/40/18
  • Rear tyres are 285/40/18 with 20mm spacers to prevent the tyres from rubbing the strut brace
  • Brembo Brakes

Air suspension setup

  • Castor solenoids
  • 2p6 solid aluminium tops
  • Custom made struts with Monroe shocks
  • Double Bellow (Teepow Brand)
  • Stylistic tank, 5 gal tank, seamless tank
  • 8mm piping into hard lines
  • 2x VIAIR 444C pumps

Interior

  • Resprayed centre console black
  • Double Din android head unit
  • Standard Bose sound system
  • DragonBall shift ball knob
  • Tan Seats are stock
  • The whole boot section has Stp for sound deadening
  • Asian Wolf alarm system with auto-start feature
  • Extra 140amp slab gel battery to handle the extra load
  • Stabilizer cover was Resprayed to match the theme of the car lighting done in the boot
  • OEM wooden floor to hide all wiring so had to ditch Spare Tyre

The only work done by myself was respraying the centre console and door handles as well as fitting the stickers to the tank before the final spray. I was involved a lot during the planning and layout of the air suspension setup as well as the spraying of the tank.

Future plans

Moegsien's future plans for the car is to put a more aggressive exhaust, ideally one with a valve system but as he says, it can be a bit pricey. He wants to find a nice deep dish rim for the car to match the stance and change up the front bumper to something a bit sportier looking with a one-off diffuser and most likely a duckbill wing to match. Very long time down the lane he might do a forced induction and would most likely be supercharged with an uprev tune. Sound upgrade just for a bit better clarity and bigger subwoofer.

Advice/Tips

Luckily in South Africa, there are top models besides the Nismo, so the thing to look for is getting the HR Model which is the last of the Nissan 350Z engine wise, it has a few styling changes such as headlights, taillights and rims which luckily I have the 2nd Gen. It has all those besides the engine. Things to look out for is the interior which generally takes a beating from the amount of light that comes in and the car is very thirsty so be prepared to spend on fuel but the drive and smiles are definitely worth it.

Groups/Clubs

I form part of Z-life (Facebook) a very chilled group of Nissan car enthusiasts mainly SX, Z and GTR but we aren't a club so to say, just people with the same interests.

If your looking to get into the car scene find one person with similar tastes to yours and ask them to join their group, Facebook page etc. Maybe start with something small like sound competitions or just wheels and not expect to roll with the guys that have been doing it for years. Most of all are to have fun because a lot of the time teams and scenes become a political game, so just look out for doing something you will always enjoy.

Moegsien would like to give a shout out to those who helped with the build as he has never done a shoot before. He would like to give a shout to Seven Customz (Jason/Ashraf) for fitting and supplying air parts. Taliep for his amazing spray work. SM Audio for sound deadening and other custom parts as well as all of his friends that helped along the way.
