Meet Angel Rodriguez – Waco’s Next-Gen Mustang Enthusiast
My name is Angel Rodriguez, the proud driver of a 2024 Mustang GT. I’m 19 years old, born and raised in Waco, Texas, and a first-generation Mexican-American. I’m a self-taught barber, photographer, and car enthusiast. Like most car lovers, my passion started when I was just a kid. There’s something about cars that unites people, and that’s what hooked me. I’ve been involved in the Waco car scene for about a year and a half now, and I’m excited to share the journey of my Mustang build.
Why I Chose the 2024 S650 Mustang GT
Choosing a Mustang wasn’t always in the cards. At 17, during my senior year of high school, I was hunting for my first car. I’d always been a Chevy guy with my heart set on a 2SS 1LE Camaro. I finally found one at a dealership—but by the time we got there, it had already been sold. That was a real letdown.
At the time, Camaros were becoming harder to find with the end of production looming. To my surprise, the dealership also had the newly released S650 Mustangs. I checked them out and instantly fell in love with the design and performance. A week of back-and-forth negotiations later, I drove off in my very own S650 Mustang. As much as I wanted the Camaro, I couldn’t pass up the chance to be one of the first in my city to own one of these incredible cars. And just like that, the build began.
The Beginning of My Mustang Build Journey
Unfortunately, the build didn’t have the best start. Just three months after buying the car, I was brake-checked and got into a wreck. It set me back another three months, but thankfully, insurance covered everything. I was grateful just to still have the car.
From the moment I got it back from Ford, I promised myself I’d make a big comeback. I wasted no time and immediately started ordering parts—lowering springs, a full RTR body kit, and more. The aftermarket scene for the new S650 Mustang was limited at the time, but I was committed. As more brands released new mods, I stayed ahead of the game and became one of the first to install them.
My goal has always been to keep the car clean and simple. While it feels complete now, I do have future plans. I’ll eventually wrap it fully, get it tuned, and even boost it—but for now, I’m incredibly happy with where it stands.

Daily Driving and Overall Experience with My S650 Mustang
I’ve had nothing but the best experience with this car. It’s reliable, fun, and practical—27,000 miles in and no issues at all. The S650 Mustang strikes the perfect balance between speed and comfort. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Every mod (except for the exhaust system) has been installed by me, and that makes the car even more meaningful.
There’s a strong emotional connection between me and this build. I recommend the S650 to anyone wanting to dive into the car scene—it’s that good.
Shoutouts and Thank You’s
First off, I want to thank Mike Autrey from Night Adder Photography. He’s been a huge help with my photography journey and made it possible for me to tell my story here.
Next, a huge shoutout to my mechanic Fidel from JR Automotive. His help has been invaluable, and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my car. Then there’s Texas Mufflers—big thanks to them for handling the full exhaust install from headers to tips in under a day.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout this build and the new friends I’ve made. All of it—every connection and conversation—was sparked by a shared passion for cars.
Looking Ahead – Future Goals in the Car Scene
Even though the car feels “finished,” I know there’s still more I want to do. Beyond the build, I’m also diving deeper into photography. I never expected to love photography so much, but the car scene really opened my eyes. One day, I hope to be capturing others’ builds as passionately as I document mine.
And let’s not forget—while I love my Mustang, I’m still a Chevy guy at heart. My ultimate goal? To one day own my dream car: a Camaro ZL1 1LE. It may take a few more years, but I know I’ll get there. Obsession, consistency, and time—that’s how dreams are made.
