"Building a car isn't just about parts. It's about turning your vision into reality and letting it speak for who you are on the road." – Khris Taylor

From San Diego to SEMA: A Car Influencer's Journey

Khris Taylor is no stranger to the show scene.

Originally from San Diego, California, now 42 and a full-time car influencer, he's the kind of guy you've probably seen online long before you realized it was the same build at SEMA.

He's already done three years at SEMA with Rohana Wheels (including the "Rohana Wheels | SEMA 2023 Featured Cars Vol. 2" appearance) and is back for SEMA 2025 with MVFORGED, taking things even further with his Tesla Model 3.

This isn't just an EV with wheels.

This is a fully thought-out widebody, carbon-heavy, detail-obsessed build that tells the story of a guy who's been grinding in the scene for over a decade.

From G35 to Grid Power: The Origin Story

Khris didn't just wake up one day and decide to build a Tesla for SEMA. His journey started long before that, rooted in family influence and early exposure to the car world.

Growing up, he was surrounded by people who loved cars—family members turning wrenches, friends talking about the latest builds, and an uncle with a serious passion for classic muscle. That uncle's stories of finding, restoring, and personalizing cars lodged deep in Khris' imagination.

In 2012, Khris picked up what would become his first real project car: an Infiniti G35.

  • First phase? Wrapped in red chrome.
  • Then came custom wheels.
  • Then AirRiders air suspension.

That G35 became his entry ticket into the show world. As he started attending events, he linked up with Firm 400, a JDM parts company, and quickly became one of their booth cars. From there, the sponsorships started stacking:

  • Extreme Dimensions for aero
  • John Auto Salon for wraps
  • 360 Wax for keeping the car dialed in with its wraps and carbon accents

Every year and a half, the G would evolve—new color, new look, new energy.

And somewhere along that path, a simple build turned into a brand.

Why a Tesla Model 3 for Show Builds?

By the time Khris had fully established his G35 in the scene, he was ready for a new challenge.

He decided to take a completely different route:

A Tesla Dual Motor Model 3 Long Range.

From the outside, that's a pretty big jump—from a loud, JDM-based G-series Infiniti to a silent, tech-forward EV. But in Khris' mind, it was a blank canvas with massive potential.

"When I acquired the wheels, I already envisioned the car. I knew I wanted it at SEMA in 2021."

He put together a proposal and reached out to Rohana Wheels, laying out his vision. Angela, the owner, saw the potential.

She didn't just say yes—she gave him custom wheels and a prime SEMA spot to showcase the car.

From that moment, the Tesla stopped being just a daily.

It became the next chapter.

The Evolution of the Tesla Model 3 Build

This car is not a one-and-done build. It's been through multiple SEMA phases, each one bolder than the last.

  • SEMA 2020 – Dragon Scale Red
  • SEMA 2021 – Inozetek Millennium Jade (Hunter Jade)
  • SEMA 2022 / 2023 – Rohana feature years
  • SEMA 2025 – Full Artisan Spirits widebody + Super Gloss PPF Italian Corsa Red wrap + MVFORGED wheels

Anthony Brian from Infinite Auto Design crafted a custom carbon-fiber hood, inspired by a McLaren 720 design — a wild detail that instantly separates this build from every other Model 3 on the floor.

Inside the trunk, Khris' friend CJ (Casper Model3 / @Ceej_Customs, Ruined.ev / @socal_g_) handled the custom setup, complete with subwoofer and ambient LED lighting—clean, functional, and show-ready.

And then there's the carbon.

"Got carbon fiber everywhere this year on the Tesla."

No exaggeration.

Driving Experience and Personal Connection

This isn't just a car Khris shows. He lives with it.

The Tesla has become:

  • A statement piece
  • A brand anchor
  • And a rolling reflection of his personal taste and growth

The color combos are intentional.

The carbon choices are unique.

The mix of form and function is deliberate.

He built this car to be recognized, but more importantly—

He built it to feel like his.

Expert Advice for Tesla and Project Car Builders

Khris doesn't just flex his builds—he drops real-world advice too:

On Buying a Project Car:

  • Run a VIN check before you even go see it.

  • Inspect inside and out: mismatched paint can reveal previous accidents.

  • Check tire wear: uneven tread can point to suspension or alignment issues.

  • Test drive it: listen for weird noises, feel the brakes, pay attention to steering feedback.

On Building Something Unique:

What makes a car truly stand out isn't just a list of parts—it's how those parts reflect you:

"With my car specifically, the color choices and carbon fiber are different. Many of the interior and exterior features are things you won't see in most cars."

Community, Loyalty, and the Car Scene

Khris is quick to point out that none of this happens alone.

"SUPER loyal people, always been with me through thick and thin, just all the amazing people around me making sure I got the best setup possible and done right."

The car scene, for him, is:

  • New friends who turned into family
  • Opportunities he never thought he'd have
  • The satisfaction of watching a vision come alive, step by step

It's not just about parking at a show—it's about the journey getting there.

Future Plans for the Tesla Build

The Tesla isn't going anywhere.

"I intend to keep this car long-term; as they say, a car is never truly finished. There's always more to upgrade and improve."

He's already:

  • Gone widebody
  • Updated the color
  • Switched to MVFORGED wheels

And you can bet more tweaks are coming as the scene evolves.

Nissan GT-R R34.

The plan is simple:

  • Widebody kit
  • MVFORGED wheels
  • Air ride
  • And dropped to the floor exactly the way Khris does best.

Final Words from a Show Scene Veteran

"Building a car is not just about assembling parts; it's about crafting a vision, turning your passion into power, and creating something that reflects who you are on the road."

From red chrome G35 to widebody Tesla Model 3 at SEMA with MVFORGED, Khris Taylor has proven one thing over and over:

You don't just build cars to be seen.

You build them to be remembered.

r0cean11 Photography began as a simple hobby for me—something I explored out of pure curiosity and passion. Twenty-four years later, it has grown into one of the defining parts of my life. Before stepping fully into automotive photography, I spent years building cars for SEMA. I photographed my own builds and projects long before I ever considered taking the craft seriously. That all changed when my last build was totaled; from that moment, photography became more than an interest—it became my purpose. ----------- Today, I shoot and write for Stance Auto Magazine, PASMAG, 742 Marketing Events, Super Lap Battle, Global Time Attack, RACEWORZ, and a wide range of automotive events across the United States. ----------- To me, automotive photography is more than capturing a vehicle—it’s about telling the story that lives within it. Every builder leaves a piece of themselves in their car, and my job is to honor that by showcasing their vision through my lens. ----------- You’ll find my event coverage, feature shoots, and automotive storytelling across all my platforms. I’m always open to connecting, answering questions, and collaborating with builders, enthusiasts, and fellow creatives. ----------- I am also a Partner with Stance Auto Magazine, serving as the Director of Marketing and Media. ----------- Facebook (Personal): Donald Rochin (Donnie Roc)
