1966 Ford Mustang Fasback - Lea Crenshaw

On May 16 a Facebook Marketplace ad caught my eye. A 1966 Mustang Fastback 2+2 in Copperas Cove. Imagine, the car I wanted in my backyard. Best believe it, I went & bought it. Cash in hand! Now I’m the proud owner of EntraStang.

I’ve grown up around cars. Tomboy at its finest. My dad used to buy, work on & sell classic cars. At the wee age of 13, I was ‘given’ a 1970 ugly green mustang. My after-school activities included sitting in the car pretending to drive, which meant pretending to outrun the cops, lol.

Unfortunately, I was unable to keep the car because it didn’t belong to me but that was not the last I had of enjoying these beautiful classic cars. My dad always felt bad for selling the ugly mustang because of how much I loved it. Fast forward to my late teens and I bought a motorcycle. 1 year into ownership an ex-classmate ran a stop sign and ran me over. Thankfully I’ve recovered but not without random muscle pains that will last forever. That broke my dad's heart to know that he introduced me to cars/motorcycles and everything that goes fast.

Fast forward to 2017 and I found a 1964 1/2 Mustang Coupe on craigslist. My dad gave me sound advice to buy the classic closest to what I wanted. Thanks, Dad! As you can imagine I bought the car, drove the car, spending money on the car, loved the car, and then sold the car. I never intended to keep that mustang but it was a segway into finding a fastback locally owned that I could restore with my pops to become my own. And I did just that!!!!!!!

Funny story about how I came across this car and bought it, On May 16 a Facebook Marketplace ad caught my eye. A 1966 Mustang Fastback 2+2 in Copperas Cove. Imagine, the car I wanted in my backyard. Best believe it, I went & bought it. Cash in hand! Now I’m the proud owner of EntraStang. That’s what I named my car. This car has had everything replaced (by my favourite shop in Austin, Gus Garage) except the paint on the car. I watched Motor Trend, called my dad, & invested untold research hours. I knew I wanted a patina beast to take to all the car meets here in Austin.

Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of female classic car owners in Austin and I’ve met only one black woman who owned & drove a classic. We hardly exist. So driving this beautiful machine on a slow neighbourhood street or a highway doing 90, it’s all the same proud feeling of accomplishment.

What makes my car Unique? That’s easy…. There is no one other 66 Fastback that looks or has what I have in the car. It has a thriving name on IG and an even cooler owner.

The Work

Gus & Levi atGus’ Garage. They helped build the car from scratch. They brought my vision to life.

Future Plans:

I want to use this platform to show young girls of colour that we can join the fellas, look cool, and love old cars without being in the passenger seat. I really enjoy networking & my car is one of a kind, which is why I’ve turned it into a marketing business. I promote other people's products and businesses and meet some cool people in the car community along the way.

Advice/Tips

If you buy and collect parts early, expect the prices to go up later and or expect to have to sell those parts bc not everything you want will work with your build. Once it’s built, there will need to be changes or upgrades, so do it right the first time to save the headache. And last but not least, drive it as you stole it.

The Car Scene

True happiness. Being around like-minded people. Kids are excited to see and touch my car and I let them. Nothing like helping them appreciate the classics. I get ideas and I share ideas. The car community is the best, extended family if you will.

Dream Car:

I own it…..
