Performance: 650hp on E85

I'm Greg Hadju, and I grew up in a small town in Illinois called Freeport. I always admired hot rods and import cars and knew I had to have one eventually. As I grew up, my friends and I had a little car group and we always wanted the next best car. I started with a '98 Dodge Neon R/T, and now I have a custom GT-R.

The short story is this: never stop thinking you can't get a car you've always wanted. Just keep your mind on the prize and work your ass off for it.

What Got Me Into Cars

Kind of corny, but the Fast and Furious movies did it for me. Like a lot of people my age, those films planted the seed. They showed what was possible with Japanese performance cars, and I've been hooked ever since.

Building the Dream: 2010 GT-R R35

I got this car in 2019, completely bone stock. At first, I started with a few upgrades—Air Lift suspension and a new Aimgain diffuser. But that wasn't enough. Once you start modifying a GT-R, it's hard to stop.

So I went all-in on a full custom widebody kit, pulling pieces from different companies and making them work together. I used Liberty Walk rear fenders and molded them into the body, made custom side skirts from a G35 coupe, added custom vents to the Liberty Walk front bumper, and molded rear vents into the quarters. I also fitted Varis front fenders to work with the Liberty Walk front bumper, which required custom work to make everything line up perfectly.

What Makes This GT-R Different

This car is an absolute head-turner with the amount of custom work done to it. The color I picked for paint—Rapid Blue from the C8 Corvette—really sets it apart. It's not a typical GT-R color, and combined with the custom widebody work, it's become a fan-favorite GT-R wherever I take it.

The fact that I did so much of the work myself makes it even more special. This isn't a catalog build where you order a kit and bolt it on. This required fabrication, molding, custom fitment, and a lot of problem-solving to blend parts from different manufacturers into one cohesive design.

Engine: VR38DETT With E85 Power

The engine is the 3.8-liter twin-turbo VR38DETT, tuned to run on E85 and making 650 horsepower. I've upgraded it with 1300cc injectors to handle the fuel flow requirements, along with custom titanium intercooler piping and intakes. The car also runs an aftermarket intake manifold and features full carbon fiber engine bay covers for that clean show-car aesthetic.

Street and Strip Concepts in Phoenix, Arizona, handled the intercooler piping and intake work, while the tune was done at Harrison Performance in Tucson, Arizona. The E85 tune provides better power delivery and cooler intake temperatures compared to pump gas, making it ideal for a car pushing this kind of power.

Exterior: Custom Widebody Masterpiece

The exterior is where this GT-R really stands out. I've combined components from multiple manufacturers and custom-fabricated pieces to create something completely unique.

The widebody consists of a Liberty Walk front bumper with custom-molded Varis front fenders that required significant modification to mate up properly. The Liberty Walk Version 3 hood and rear wing add aggressive styling, while the Liberty Walk rear fenders have been fully molded into the body for a seamless factory appearance.

I handmade the side skirts from G35 coupe pieces, modified to fit the GT-R's body lines. The Aimgain rear diffuser completes the rear end styling. Custom galaxy-lit tail lights add a unique touch that sets the car apart at night.

The paint—C8 Corvette Rapid Blue—was done by Koning's Precision Paint & Body in Illinois. It's a stunning color that shifts in different lighting conditions and really makes the custom bodywork pop.

Interior: Modern Tech Meets Custom Style

Inside, I've upgraded the GT-R with a 10.8-inch digital dash that provides better data display and modern functionality. A custom roll cage adds both safety and aggressive styling, while lots of carbon fiber panels throughout the cabin reduce weight and enhance the race-inspired aesthetic.

The galaxy light headliner creates a unique ambiance inside the cabin, complementing the custom galaxy tail lights and tying the whole theme together.

Wheels and Suspension: Form Meets Function

The wheels are custom three-piece units made by LD97, measuring 20x11 inches in the front and massive 20x13 inches in the rear. They're wrapped in Toyo R888 tires that provide serious grip for the car's power level.

The suspension runs on Air Lift Performance, giving me the flexibility to slam the car for shows and cruising while raising it up for practical driving and clearing obstacles. This adjustability is essential for a widebody car with aggressive wheel fitment.

Who Built It

Most of the work on this car was done by myself. That includes the bodywork, fitment, assembly, and countless hours of fabrication and problem-solving. Street and Strip Concepts in Phoenix, Arizona, handled the intercooler piping and custom intake work. Harrison Performance in Tucson, Arizona, dialed in the E85 tune. Koning's Precision Paint & Body in Illinois laid down the stunning Rapid Blue paint.

Everything else—the widebody installation, custom side skirt fabrication, vent molding, interior work, and assembly—I handled personally in my own garage.

Future Plans

The plan is simple: more power. The GT-R platform is capable of so much more, and I'm always looking to push the envelope further. The foundation is solid, so it's just a matter of continuing to refine and improve.

Living the Dream

My dream car? I'm driving it. The R35 GT-R represents everything I wanted in a performance car—Japanese engineering, twin-turbo power, all-wheel-drive capability, and a platform that responds incredibly well to modification.

Starting with that '98 Dodge Neon R/T and working my way up to this custom GT-R proves that if you work hard and stay focused, you can build the car you've always wanted. It doesn't matter where you start—it matters where you're willing to go.
