2000 Honda Civic Si - Tyler Thurman
My first car was a 96’ automatic Honda Civic with a sticker-bombed fender. I then bought a 2000 Electron Blue Pearl EM1 and instantly fell in love. I took that car to every car show and meet I possibly could just to be able to show her off.

My name is Tyler Thurman. I am a 26-year-old f young man from Lynchburg, VA. I have been employed at Forest Collision for the last three years as a body technician. I started with little to no knowledge and have excelled in my profession. I now prep, prime, and am also learning how to paint.
When I’m not working on cars, I enjoy Hotwheels hunting. Sounds kind of funny coming from a 26-year-old, right? What a lot of people don’t know is Hotwheels has treasure hunts and super treasure hunts that are extremely hard to find and can be worth a good chunk of money. When you do find one though, it feels like you just hit the lottery!
Growing up I always had a love for mustangs, but then that slowly faded into a lifelong love and respect for JDM builds. I had a friend in high school who owned a Honda and that’s what started it all. My first car was a 96’ automatic Honda Civic with a sticker-bombed fender. I then bought a 2000 Electron Blue Pearl EM1 and instantly fell in love. I took that car to every car show and meet I possibly could just to be able to show her off.
When I sold my first EM1 I immediately had instant regret of letting it go. Over the years I have had plenty of different Honda’s but my mind always went back to the EM1. It was my dream car, so when the opportunity came to snag another one I was definitely not letting it go. It was not in the best condition when I first got the car, but I saw potential. I instantly got to work with doing a little at a time over the course of 2.5-3 years and now I finally have my dream build.
After having an EM1 in high school, I decided to build this car from the ground up. I didn't want to make it exactly like my old one, so I had a couple of ideas of what I wanted to change. Almost everything was stock on the car when I first got it except for the k series motor and coil-overs. It was like I had a clean slate to work with without going back and redoing what someone else had already done.
Being able to own and drive this car every day is like a dream come true. When I stand back and take a look at this build, I see lots of patience, time, hard work, money, trial and error, and success. Sometimes I will be driving down the road and kids will get excited and their faces will light up or I’ll get compliments such as “That sure is a nice car man!” or “That thing sure is clean!” with a thumbs up. It is honestly a great feeling of accomplishment knowing that I can inspire someone else from what I have worked so hard on.
If I was asked what makes my car different, and unique, I would have to say, is that they were only produced for two years and it's difficult to find them now in decent shape. I have completely restored my car and even added a little touch of my own taste to make it “unique.”

In moderation, yes I would say I have done the work by myself. Don’t get me wrong, I have had help working on my car but when it comes down to the ideas, putting in the time, and the money; I’ve done it all. I am learning how to paint and even painted some of my cars myself!
Future Plans
I eventually want to build a K20A2 or a K20Z1 and swap it in the car. I know my next mod will be adding an auto power half cage into the car. Last but not least, I will have Volk TE 37s. I have always wanted to put those wheels on this car.
Advice/Tips
Don't jump on the first one that catches your eye. Check out your options! Make sure to check everything over as it is an older car. Be patient and make sure you find one with a good base to start off your build. The first thing I always check for is rust. Not just in the body but also under it such as the floors.
Shout Outs
I'd like to give a shoutout to Dilated. I am currently the state lead for Virginia and I have met some amazing people who are like family. It’s never a competition between any of us throughout the states, only support.

I have had the chance to meet a lot of different people who have turned into friends. Ive been able to see some absolutely amazing builds. My fiancé and I have gotten to be able to travel with our friends to new places when we go to car shows or events and make a ton of new memories!
Dream Car
A Honda S2000 CR simply because the looks and performance are outstanding. Honda will always have a special place in my heart, but this one is my dream car.
