For Matt Reed, cars have always been more than just a hobby—they’re a way of life. As an automotive detailer with a deep-rooted passion for import cars, Matt has spent years perfecting his craft and pouring his heart into every project. His current pride and joy, a 2015 Subaru WRX, wasn’t always destined to become the head-turner it is today. But when tragedy struck, Matt found solace and healing in transforming this daily driver into a true reflection of his spirit and creativity.

From Daily Driver to Passion Project: The Evolution of Matt’s WRX

A Lifelong Love for Cars

Matt’s love for cars started early. Growing up, his friends were mostly into muscle cars, but it was a Mitsubishi Eclipse—owned by his now-wife—that steered him toward the world of imports. That Eclipse sparked a passion that has only grown over the years, eventually leading Matt to a career as an automotive detailer, where he could blend his love for cars with his professional life.

Channelling Grief into Creation

Initially, Matt had no intention of modifying his Subaru WRX. It was just a plain, reliable daily driver. However, when his father passed away suddenly, Matt was left grappling with overwhelming grief. Unsure of how to cope, he turned to his car as an outlet for his emotions. The WRX became more than just a vehicle—it became a therapeutic project that helped him process his loss. “Anything and everything has been touched or massaged on this car,” Matt reflects, highlighting the personal connection he has forged with this build.

The Team Behind the Build: Who Did the Work?

A Family Effort

Much of the work on Matt’s WRX was done by himself and his family. They spent countless hours wrenching, tuning, and perfecting the car, making it a true labor of love.
