2020 Honda Varis Widebody Civic Type R/FK8 - Kenneth Graepsey Dioso

I started with a 94 Integra, Scion TC, Honda Prelude, Toyota 86, and Lexus IS250 which all I sold and now I currently own a 2015 Subaru STI and a Honda Civic Type R. I’ve been wanting to get into Type R, however, I couldn’t find the right one for my taste.

Performance Stats: Custom-tuned by @mikethetuner and currently pushing 378 HP & 366 TRQ

My nickname is Ken, 32 years old, I was born on July 3, 1989, and raised in the Philippines until 2002 when I migrated here to San Jose USA.

I went to college for a medical program and graduated back in 2009. After working in a hospital for roughly 5 years I realized that it was not for me. I went ahead and applied at Tesla Auto Manufacturing where I currently work as an Associate Manager. I am a stay-at-home person, an individual that loves to sleep, watch anime, play video games, collect anime toys and lastly I’m into tuner cars which is an expensive hobby.

When I was a kid I was interested in cars but I had no plans nor cross my mind to modify or customise one. However, playing a lot of video games such as Need for Speed, and Gran Turismo and watching the Fast and the Furious movie series got me into customising. It's an unexplainable feeling, of excitement and satisfaction.

As stated that I am into tuner cars. I’ve owned a lot of cars on different platforms. When Honda released the new type R/FK8 in 2016 with its current features and design - I already decided to get one someday when financial permits, which I did and I loved it.

I’ve driven a lot of cars as stated previously including M3 BMW and AMG cars. The FK8 gives and provides a different feeling driving the car. Yes, I agree fk8 does not have a lot of power compared to M3 and etc. but the driving experience gives its own unique feeling, even on long drives and especially on spirit driving.

To put it in perspective when I get stressed from work or any challenges I take the FK8 for a drive and it provides the smiles per gallon. Also, being the only FK8 in North California that is in Full Varis Widebody Catalog is a grateful and blessed feeling. And something that I am proud of with my achievements.

What makes my car stand out, to be honest, is hard to explain for me. But with the FWD on this vehicle has its own unique experience, steering response is on point, the chassis is pretty stiff and gives a solid feel on sharp turns, and the drive modes provide a different feeling as well. With a couple, of power mods bolt on and custom tuned, it wakes the car more and provides the next level of experience.

Who did the work?

Brian’s Garage worked on my Varis Widebody Kit and performance parts, Almaden’s Collision on the paintwork & clear coats on my carbon fibre parts. HTL Motorsports on my suspension, air cup lift system and brake upgrades. Auto Innovation on my camber arms and custom alignment. WD Garage for my wheels and tire mounts. Speed Element on my Defi Gauges. Studio RSR installed my roll cage. The rest of the parts I installed them myself.

Future Plans

I would like to take a quick break from customising/modifying the FK8 and to recoup financially, but here are the future plans for the FK8:

  • PRL Helix AOS
  • PRL AOS Install Kit
  • PRL AOS Drain Kit
  • PRL Inlet Pipe
  • Spoon Bump Steer Kit
  • Spoon Front Rigid Collars
  • Spoon Rear Rigid Collars
  • Blitz Rear Garnish

There is also a plan to get into another platform for me to customize as soon as I am done with the FK8. It's still early to tell which platform I am going with in the future.

Advice/Tips

A lot of car enthusiasts wanted to speed everything up to show and the majority are getting distracted by the clout as well. And end up making bad decisions and spending more. I’ve learned that from experience. Just be patient and take your time, trust the process. Modifying a car is not a race, it's a journey. Be honest, respect another car enthusiast as well as their build and stay humble at all times.

Groups/Clubs:

Companies/shoutout:

Aside from being grateful for your own achievements and proud to showcase them to everyone for what you accomplished. You get to meet new people that can be learned from each other, and expand your knowledge in the car scene as well in life with their own personal experiences. And seeing other car enthusiasts with their own growth and achievements is good to see and watch.
