From Matchbox Dreams to Metal Masterpieces

My car journey started long before I ever got behind the wheel. As a kid, I collected Matchbox cars—those tiny diecast models were my entire world. Lining them up on the floor, imagining what it would be like to drive one someday... it sparked something deep in me. That childhood spark never faded.

As I got older, I found the car scene shifting. The streets were full of cookie-cutter vehicles—same shapes, same sounds, no soul. I wanted something different, something that spoke to the history of car culture. That’s when the idea of restoring and customizing older cars began to take root. There’s just something about older vehicles—their lines, their mechanical feel, the way they demand attention—that modern cars can’t replicate.

I left the world of banking and moved into industrial sales, specifically in the metal finishing and polishing industry. Over time, I started creating my own line of metal care products—Renegade Products USA. As social media exploded, I needed a way to show people how good the products were—not just talk about it, but prove it.We also make Detailing products now as well.

That’s where this Datsun came in. I didn’t just want to build a car—I wanted to build a functional art piece. A rolling example of what our polishing products could do. Something that could be shown at events, photographed in different lighting, and still be a true performance vehicle.

Why the Datsun 240Z Was the Perfect Canvas

When thinking about what car could embody this vision, the 1970 Datsun 240Z Series 1 stood out immediately. It’s got that unmistakable JDM character mixed with just the right amount of Western influence—a real crossover between cultures. It reminded me of a Japanese take on the Jaguar E-Type, with its long bonnet, sleek curves, and timeless design.

The 240Z has always been an iconic figure in JDM car culture, and as a Series 1 model, this one carries even more historical weight. There’s a purity in the early 240Z that’s hard to replicate—clean lines, analog feel, and raw potential. For what I wanted to create, it was the ideal foundation.

Custom-Built to Showcase Performance and Polish

Everything about this car has been designed to balance style, performance, and presentation. The paint, the engine, even the interior—it all reflects the capabilities of the products we make while staying true to the Datsun’s vintage soul.

The Team Behind the Build

The heavy lifting was done by JBZ Classics, who took my vision and executed it with absolute precision. These guys understood the assignment: keep it old school but elevate every detail. Their work speaks for itself in the finish, the stance, the way it drives.

This car isn’t just built—it’s crafted.

Future Plans: What’s Next in the Garage?

Now that the Datsun is complete, I’ve got the itch again. I’d love to take on something European next. Maybe an older BMW 2002 or a classic Jaguar XJ6—something that oozes class but still leaves room to tweak, polish, and perfect.

My builds aren’t just about driving. They’re about expressing creativity, promoting craftsmanship, and telling a story.

Massive Thanks to My Crew

No build happens in isolation. Big thanks to:

  • Jhenessey – for always being supportive through the process.

  • John Viniegra – logistical ninja, always came through when needed.

  • Pat @5starsautomotive
  • And of course, The Federal Reserve Bank—because builds like this aren’t cheap!

Dream Car

Easy answer: a 1963–1965 Aston Martin DB5. There’s just something about that era of cars—design, elegance, and performance rolled into one. That’s the ultimate goal someday.
